Anyone make a 40-65 lever?

Hi does anyone make a lever in 40-65 or will I have to use a 45-70 as a donor?

Chiappa Arms used to make a repro 1876. CDNN was selling them a few years ago.

Cimarron Arms offers a 1876 Winchester replica in 40-60.
They have both a long and short barrel version.
They sure are fine looking rifles.

Mike, Bob; .40-65 WCF and .40-60 WCF are not interchangeable. .40-65 was originally an 1886 cartridge, longer and more heavily loaded than the .40-60 1876.

(Confusingly, .40-60 Marlin is the same case as the .40-65 WCF.)

win94oz, I think you will have to rebarrel a .45-70 to get a modern .40-65 repeater.
There are a lot of .40-65 single shots out there - I have one - but they are meant to substitute for the .40-70 Sharps with common brass. I am at present loading a 420 grain bullet for my Browning, whereas the original repeater load had a 260 grain bullet.

Have you thought about a .45-70-300?
A friend here loads his .45-90 and .450 BPE with the 330 gr Gould Express bullet, which does very well.

agree, would likely have to rebarrel an existing 45-70, unless you could find a used one so converted

I have an old Navy Arms Rolling block in 40-65... kinda like the cartridge... I've used it for long range steel buffalo shoots at the CAS range I shoot at...

don't know if it holds much advantage over the 45-70 or even 50-70 at "normal" shooting distances, particularly if loaded with heavy bullet like I run in the rolling block... in a lever gun, most bullet profiles will be close...

Oh hell, you're right. I know they're not interchangeable, I just keep getting them mixed up as to which one went with which rifle.
