Best Full Size 9mm Handgun Around 300-400?
Today my dad bought a Springfield XD 9mm and I fell in love with it, and I want a handgun of my own similar to it. I am looking at spending around 300-400. Any feedback is welcome, Thanks!

Well, I own two XD9s and they are great guns. I paid over $500 for mine, but they can be had for considerably less now that the XDm is the new kid on the block. Of course, that is assuming you can find one now. A used one should fall into your price parameters.

You can get a Ruger SR9 a tad over 400 unless you can find a good deal or a used one.

+1 on the XD9. Cheaper then XDm. Many configurations. Hope they are still available.

I hear good things about the Ruger SR pistols.
A CZ 75 clone can be had for that price range as well. |

I have a EAA CZ knock-off. I picked it up for $320. Best $300 I ever spent. Shoots strait and eats anything you put in it too.

There is nothing wrong with buying used as an option for you. Kahr makes a good gun and most of them are around 300-400 bucks new or used.

both Ruger SR9s and Springfield XD9s can be had for around $400 but you may have to shop around to find them priced at that right now. I own an SR9 compact and use it as my concealed carry pistol, it is very accurate, reliable, has a decent trigger and good ammo capacity. I love the XD but in my opinion the only advantage that it has over the SR9 is a slightly better trigger while the SR9 has higher ammo capacity and longer sight radius(the distance between front and rear sight, the longer the distance the easier it is to align proper sight picture). I rave over the XDM though, they are my favorite handgun of all time but they rarely drop under $600 and the XD is a decent gun all the same.
if you are in the mood for a gun that not everyone has then you may look at the Arcus 98 DA. this Bulgarian pistol is imported by century international arms and though many stores do not normally keep them in stock, most can special order from lipseys wholesale or can do a transfer from buds gunshop. they normally run just north of $300. they are a budget priced alternative to the browning hi power pistol so many that buy them expecting a BHP are disappointed by the quality comparison but they do have a small cult following here on TFL. I have yet to spend any trigger time with one most reports and reviews are positive. all guns mentioned are in 9mm.

If you're looking for something similar to the xd, the folliwing are all striker fired polymer framed pistols;
S&W SD Ruger SR9 Walther PPX I feel like I'm forgetting some, but thoae should all be able to be had new in your price range. If you are opened to used, your choices are much much broader. |

I really like my full size SR9. It's my concealed carry most of the time.
Ruger corrected the trigger issue they first had with the 2ND edition. If you research the SR9 online, you will find OLD posts complaining about the trigger. These are the first guns. The newest edition, serial numbers beginning with 331, have the same trigger feel as the SR9c. It may be the same trigger assembly. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2 |

I'll put in a good word for the Bersa 9mm ultra-carry.... great pistol for the price if you're looking for reliability and functionality

Use?
Also, will this be used for home defense, carry, or just a range gun? That would help direct any other suggestions.

I paid $400 for a used HK USP9. There are some excellent deals to be found in the used market. The USP is one of my favorite duty pistols, certainly more than worth the price I paid. Police trade-ins are a good source of high quality, low priced pistols.
Another excellent deal can be found in the Daewoo DP51. This is a very good quality pistol and I've seen them as low as $250. Not as soft recoiling as the HK, but accurate and very reliable. A best buy IMHO. |

Don't overlook the Ruger P-95. Hurry up and make up your mind so you can go grab the appropriate hi cap mags for whatever you're getting...before they're all gone. Or too expensive.

Sleeper
Really all of the aforementioned will do a great job. However, I will add a little known gem that's had in your ballpark and based on JMB's brilliant Hi Power design, namely, the Arcus 98 (94 is nice as well). Have a look at least.
