M9A1 vs 75SP01

If you are given a chance to buy one of them (not both), which one would you pick:
  1. Beretta M9A1
  2. CZ 75 SP01

In terms of accuracy (up to 50ft) and crisp trigger break, which one has a better edge?

My vote goes to the M9A1, once you get past the first double action shot.

I like the CZ ... I like it a lot, but my choice would be the Beretta hands down. Most awesome gun in the world IMO.

I shoot best with the 92FS over everything else (and all of my guns shoot well). That 92 just has the perfect fit for me and it is oh so smooth!

CZ SP-01, Better ergo's, higher capacity, theoretically better accuracy potential(Though both are probably just as accurate as each other), and the SP-01 comes either with a de-cocker or a traditional safety.

I've actully had both. Neither are my 1st choice, but I'd rather buy the Beretta than be given 2 of the CZ's

Having shot both, I can't say one is objectively better than the other.

Subjectively, I chose to buy the SP01. Suits me better.

Both are reliable and accurate.

Neither, and I own a CZ SPO1 Shadow and love it unconditionally. I also have spent plenty of time behind a Beretta 92 though never owned one.
Why anyone who is primarily concerned with 50-foot accuracy would buy a service-grade pistol is beyond me. If ACCURACY is your main requirement, buy a target pistol.
Both the 92 and the SPO1 will hit plenty of targets at 50 feet and do yeoman's work on any human-size threat at 50 feet, but they are not target pistols and frankly, their accuracy standard is about par for service guns. Saying one is consistently more accurate is mere puffery as no one is likely to have conducted the kind of testing required to make such a claim. They are simply service handguns.

The M9 is bigger that the SP01. Both shoot great but I personally favor the beretta. I cant imagine someone concealing it though. Its probably oversized for a 9mm. I own a 96A1. Its sweet. Big but sweet. Every function on that pistol is effortless to perform. Alot of guys have the CZ at my range. Theyre pretty popular and have a reputation for reliability. Ive never had a single hicup with my beretta in 5000+ rounds.

I'll buy you a beretta for 2 SP-01's!

May I ask what made you dislike the SP-01 so much? Just for my own curiosity.

This.

Shot both many times and while they are both excellent guns IMO, the ergo's of the CZ are perfect for me. YMMV

May be I should ask why the CZ is is more popular for gaming: is it just the smaller grip?

Is the DA trigger pull significantly shorter than the Beretta?

the cz sp-01 has a huge grip, but so does the 92. the standard 75b has a smaller grip frame and has better ergos IMO. not sure what you mean by gaming. hopefully you mean competition and not video games. both have horrid DA pulls, but who cares? even in competition, only your first shot is DA.

Because mechanical accuracy, and a good trigger makes it easier to hit your target, even at closer self defense ranges. We all know that pistols are pretty terrible threat stoppers unless you hit vitals. I want that extra bit of accuracy for that reason as it may mean the difference in a vital hit or miss.

In addition the tuned versions of the SP-01 ARE "target pistols". You see lots of tuned CZ's doing target and IDPA duty.

loose_holster_dan, I have an SP01, and it takes the same aftermarket grip panels as the standard 75B. The extra capacity comes from extended magazines, which extend below the grip frame. Standard 75B magazines fit flush with the SP01 grip frame. I know, as I carry the SP01 with those mags on the occasions when I opt to carry the SP01.

Neither gun has a polymer frame. The SP01, as you note, has a steel frame while the M9A1 is an aluminum framed pistol.

JohnKSa, I think he meant he was referring to the steel SP01, not the Shadow.

Edit: Actually, I am not sure what he meant.

2nd Edit: I also meant Phantom (polymer frame) not Shadow (one of several CZ75 variants modified for competition).

Trigger reset distance

What about the trigger reset distance: are they more or less the same?

It's possible to get the Shadow variant of the SP-01 to less than 6# DA pull, and very smooth too. 13 pound hammer spring, a competition hammer, and some smoothing of trigger parts will get you there and still be Production legal.

M9A1 for sure!

I am Biased though, I own 2 of them, one is a genuine M9A1 the other is an
M9A1 with a 92FS slide on it, Oh and a Taurus PT92AF. Mine are all tuned for a 147 grain XTP @ 1185fps.

The double action trigger on the first round is of no consequence, I have fired many thousands of rounds through these pistols, it's just second nature now.

The polymer SP-01 Shadow, and the steel SP-01 are both designated SP-01 by CZ.

I was not aware of that. That's a little confusing.

Ok, so what I find is that there are actually 3 pistols that CZ designates the CZ 75 SP-01

http://www.cz-usa.com/products/by-category/full-size/

CZ 75 SP-01 -- (9mm, steel frame, manual safety)

CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical -- (9mm or .40S&W, steel frame with ambidextrous decocker and night sights)

CZ 75 SP-01 Phantom -- (9mm, polymer frame with decocker and interchangeable grip inserts).

It is very confusing. CZ interchanges names and designations, and I believe has actually changed them over time.

Bottom line is I've shot my friends all steel SP-01 and loved it. Then I shot the polymer framed SP-01 Phantom expecting more felt recoil, but did not experience any, and got the same accuracy, as the all steel SP-01.

Easy choice, CZ.

I MUCH prefer shooting my CZ to any of my Beretta's.
