777 in cartridges for an Uberti.

I just put an Uberti 1851 .38 special cartridge conversion on layaway, it just screamed to me to buy it. I would like to shoot a black powder substitute out of it, specifically 777 because I have a bunch of it around. Does anyone have any experience loading cartridges with this stuff? Anything special I should do different from loading black powder? How about any opinions on the Uberti revolvers, this will be my first one. Anything I should look out for? Thanks.

I loaded some .44 Special and WCF with 777. I just filled the case to the base of the bullet with a LITTLE compression, much less than I use for black. Hodgdon says: Loading density should be 100% with light compression not to exceed .100". Testing has shown that Triple Seven will perform best when the bullet just touches the powder. Allow no airspace between the base of the bullet and the powder.

I can't answer your question but those 1851 cartridge conversions are sweethearts! I especially like the 4¾" version. Now that I've got an 1860 (sort of, back to Cimarron) and an 1872 Open Top the 1851 is next on my list.

I got to tell you, the action on the conversion is what sold me on it, well that and the looks. I just walked into the shop determined to buy up some reloading components and just wanted to play with the revolver. I had to have it.
