slugs,
hi guys, I have benelli montefeltro in 12ga, 28bbl.
can I shoot slugs, lowest choke is skeet that came with it. (5 thogether chokes ) |

you can always shoot slugs through a shotgun (well, almost always). Anything wider than a Full choke is usually just fine, and IC is considered "best" for rifled slugs.
Make sure they're rifled, as sabots won't give you any accuracy at all at any range through a smooth barrel. |

rifled slugs are usually used under 100 yards, but I've seen them take down deer as far as 200 yards.

ive used riffled, and saboted slugs successfully up to 100 yds with my mossy 500, and smooth slugger barrel.

Overbore means that from chamber section to bore, the barrel stays larger than normal to reduce recoil as some of the gasses can pass by the wad initially making a softer recoil.
Overbored barrels do not handle single projectiles as the slug can try to tumble and get wedged up tighter than a fish's butt.. Most of these barrels will be roll stamped with at least "NO SLUGS"... or as much as "Overbored barrel, NOT SAFE FOR SLUGS"... Brent |
