Okay all you cowboy action shooting fans. Have I got a question for you.

Is the Thompson Contender Carbine in 45/70 legal in the long range side matches?

It is a rifle, with a hammer that shoots the 45/70 cartride.

What are you opinions. I have been told yes, no, and maybe.

I know it is not in the spirit of the game but then neither is 357/38 calibers. Or rifles that fire 45 Colt.

Thanks Judge Blackhawk

Howdy Judge,

I won't get into what is or isn't in the Spirit of the Game, but your rifle is not legal for SASS Long Range by virtue of the fact that it's not of pre-1896 manufacture or a reproduction of a rifle made before 1896.

Bellicose Bill

Nice modern rifle available in about fifteen calibers. Most folks ask if they can shoot the Ruger No. 1. Ditto what Bill said.
