anyone seen the new Winchesters pdx1? looks more retarded than dragons breath .

Back during our Uncivil War,1861-65, a common military load for muskets was a nigh bore sized ball with a number of smaller(Usually 3) buck sized pellets along with it.

The load was so popular you can see monuments on old battlefields of one big ball being held up on a trio of smaller ones, though folks seem, lacking scale, to think they're cannonballs.

At Antietam, when the Irish Brigade fought their way to where they could catch the Confederates hunkered down in the Sunken Lane in enfilading fire they were so successful with that load that "Should one so desire, one can walk a furlong or two down the lane without touching the ground"

Said lane's name now is Bloody Lane.

During our Revolution, Washington ordered muskets charged with similar loads for combat.

Before that, Cromwells' Roundheads used the load in their matchlocks.

IOW, the concept has a lot of history behind it. Time will tell if it's superior to current defensive loads or not.
