I can get any amount of 9mm .40 .45 no problem. And that's in the UK were most on the forums from what i read think we can't have firearms.

I am gonna pick up a .40 as well. My good friend brought his P226 to the range last week and I loved how it shot. But the SR40c will probably be what ill get.

If money is no object, then the Sig Sauer P229 is THE best 40 you can buy.

I'm going to be in the market for a .40 as well, I currently don't own one but I feel I should get one at my next available opportunity, just to have the ability to consume .40 S&W ammunition.

The reason I haven't got one at this point was ammunition cost, I currently have 1000 9mm SD rounds and 1000 45 ACP SD rounds stored.

If you are looking to pick up a .40, my recommendation is a used S&W 4006. All stainless steel, heavy, made to last several lifetimes and affordable.

Two weeks ago, the wally world here had about a half dozen hundred count boxes of .40 S&W WWB, and UMC ammo on the shelf, and several boxes of higher end SD ammo too. I should have bought a bunch of it while I could. It's all gone now, and they don't know when they'll get more.

I finally found some UMC online, or at least they said it was in stock, and they took my order, promising delays.

BTW, I just recently lucked into a .40 M&P Shield for MSRP. My first .40. Sweet gun!

Buy a glock 27 40 S&W and then buy the Lone wolf 9mm conversion barrel and your done. Two guns in one!!

Forty is actually doing pretty good. 5.56, 9mm, .45, and 7.62x39 are most of whats been cleaned out.

All out of the Tula .40 at the local stores. They have limited amounts of other .40 but its over $15 for 50. I need to order some online. I shoot my G23 better than any of my other guns. 6 inch disk at 100 yards, no prob.

it's mostly a lack of demand. 45 and 9mm are the two most prolifically used handgun calibers out there along with 357 and 38 special on the revolver side.

the 40 S&Ws and 44 mags have enough demand that companies continue to crank them out at decent speeds while few enough people use it to instantly clean up shop when a scare like this hits. case in point which may vary per person.
in a 15 mile radius among family members (anti 1911s)
I now own 2, 9mms and 2, 45ACPs
my bother owns 1, 40 cal and 1, 45ACP
my brother in law owns 2, 9mms
a LEO buddy owns 2 40 cals, 1 45 and 2 9mms(glock snob).
so in my family of avid gun enthusiasts there are
6 9mms total
4 45 ACPs total and
3 40 cals.

none of us shoot 1911s mind you so some people are bound to have much more in the way of 45s but you see the correlation in the demand placed on those calibers. notice that calibers like 25 ACP, 32 AUTO, and 10mm were barely even affected by this latest scare, the number of people to create the demand is directly proportionate to the number of people removing the supply...

I have no idea if that rambling even had a point but I added my .02 and that's that.

Update:
Went to the LGS today. Handled a few different guns. Ended up going with a Glock 23 Gen 4. Just seems like a nice package. I carry mid size compacts typically so I could carry this if I wanted. I figure parts availability and accessories (especially conversion barrels if I go that route) is hard to beat with Glocks. I must say I still love the Gen 4 texture and the tiny reduction in trigger reach is a nice plus for my hands. There were also a bunch of boxes of the black and white Winchester boxed 180 gr 40SW bonded JHP. My understanding is this is government overrun. Either way it seemed decent and I got 100 rds of defense ammo for $40. The availability of stuff for the 40SW is really encouraging. Will post a range report or update late this weekend.

I also feel that it is supply and demand. Last year the Federal Govt. was stocking up and ordered millions of rounds of 40mm. Now they are stocked up and the demand is lower for that round so there is more supply for it.

Good for you! I love my G22 but really enjoy my USP 40 as well!

Just playing. 40mm is much bigger than .40 S&W. It's the size of rifle launched grenades. In millimeters, the .40 is 10mmx21mm, compared to 9mmx19mm which is .355-358.

.40 represents .4 of 1 inch

I just paid $68/bag of 250 rounds of hollow point 9mm (brass). Purchased 2 bags. Same guy was selling 250 round bags of .40 for almost $100/bag. I also bought some 10mm for $18/50 round bag.

There's plenty of ammo out there. Buy what you need for now, just be patient.

I went into a local Walmart yesterday and looked at ammo. The shelves were pretty picked over, with 9mm, 45 and 38 completely gone. There was a modest amount of 40 and 380 available, so I bought some of each as I have those calibers in guns. My plan is to shoot 9mm, 45 and 38 less if it is going to be scarce, and 40, 22 and 380 more. I like to shoot and can be pretty happy shooting any caliber.

I have 3 guns in 40 and like them all - a Sig P229, a Glock 23 and an H&K USP 40c. The Sig is the heaviest and most fun to shoot because it handles recoil so well.

I've noticed that here in southern NH too, not much of a selection of 9mm or .45 ACP, but there is a huge selection of .40 S&W ammo just about everywhere. Good for me seeing as the only handgun I own is a S&W 4006

.40 is still readily available here in North Central Texas, and was fairly available also during the extent of the Great Election Panic four years ago. This time around, I have noticed curiously that .380 is still readily available, which was definitely not the case last time. But no 9mm, .45, or curiously even .38 Special is available in my area.
