I think it is ruined. . .

I was just cleaning my little Taurus PT-22 and the bronze brush got stuck. It was the proper size and was treated with a solvent at the time.

I wasn't able to budge it at all without getting a set of vice grips out to remove it. The bore now looks to be a bit rough towards the end where the brush was stuck and I am wondering if this gun will be safe to shoot.

I will be taking it in to get looked at in the near future, but I would appreciate any opinions here.

Bastage, I don't know how a brass brush could harm the barrel. As far as safety goes it won't be a problem. If you somehow nicked the crown with the rod it might hurt any accuracy the little gun might of had. George

Forgive me if you already know this but when cleaning with a brush, be sure to go all the way through the barrel. Don't try to change directions half way through for the reasons you've described.

Make sure the roughness you see isn't just fouling build-up. If you've cleaned it before without problems then that could be the reason it got stuck in the first place. Small bores like the 22 are more prone to periodic build-up and depending on the type of ammo you use, the build-up can be sudden. Some 22 ammo is just nasty.

If you have lived a good life, the "roughness" you refer to, is just where the
brush gouged the lead and powder fouling that is built up in your bore.

More soaking in Hoppes #9 and a Tornado brush is indicated.....I think you won't be up for a recrown, especially at the (short)ranges the little pistol is likely to be used at, but I could be wrong.

Lube on 22LR is critical, sometimes it gets rubbed/melted off and really bad persistent leading can result. [Even motor HPM grease or 'ye anciente Allox' will do to add to dab onto a bald-headed lead projectile in emmergencies I've found].

brush would gouge a barrel, I bet you got some heavy lead flakes your seeing, if not god knows what lind of metal the barrel is made of.:]

Thanks all,

I took it in to the shop today and the man there said it is fine. I was just a little worried as the point where the brush stopped looked terrible. Must have just been some build up as the shopman cleaned it up good.
