Hey Blackhawk owners! What holster do you use?

I'm the recipient of a (used) Ruger Blackhawk .357/9mm with a 4 5/8" barrel, but I'm having a little trouble coming up with some options other than Simply Rugged or Bianchi.

Those are both fine options, very worthy of consideration, but I thought I'd see what else you guys are using.

Anybody?

I believe you can get a leather holster for it through the Ruger shop. They're made by Triple K and have the Ruger eagle stamped on them. I have one for my Single-six .32 mag. Not bad for the price IMO.

Happy Holidays!

I use a Uncle Mikes vertical shoulder holster for my 10" .44 while hunting. Cant remember right off hand the size but it works. I have the Uncle Mikes for my hip as well but it sucks to carry that beast there

I do not own a black hawk but the one you have is smaller then several guns that I do have. I have been getting my holsters from Michaels of Oregon....Uncle Mike. The reason I do this is because I own a lot of odd balls and the Uncle Mikes are easy to modify with sewing or using a kinda fastner that is used in holsters so you can make a custom fit.

Also you are not limited to just IWB or OWB but you can fasten holsters into your coats and avoid printing and still have easy access.

1) Find the right size Uncle Mike's Sidekick nylon holster for about $15. It will work just fine. I usually go to their website to find the right size, then go to the local Academy store or ebay.

2) Take your time and find a really nice leather one that's perfect for you. My favorites are usually used gems from gun shows or the LGS.

I had Graveyard Jack Gunleather make up this modified Tom Threepersons holster for me. This for my ex-.357 Magnum Three Screw .44 Special Blackhawk:

This for social everyday carry.

For outdoor use in the fields or woods, a retaining strap is better:

I got one like this off Ebay last year. Mines for the 4 5/8" version. Made by Bianchi for Ruger. Mines in better shape and I paid $70 for it.

I have a Blackhawk .357/9mm with 7" barrel. I use a triple k belt with cross draw holster drover style. It is very comfortable.

Six Rugers

Six El Paso Saddlery 1920 Crossdraw. Fantastic. Sitting in a truck, stand, or walking with no adjustment.

Rusty Sherrick, one of the best. He makes holsters with trigger not exposed.
If your trigger snags on something you could have a big problem!
Check him out online.

How so with a single action Blackhawk? You can pull on the trigger 'till your finger falls off , if the hammer's not cocked... nothing is going to happen.

This IS a legit concern with a Double Action though.

I have the Bianchi Lawman for my NMBH 41 Mag, but the CME Border Ranger otherwise. Nice leather, well made, holds close, and good forward cant for clearing the holster. It's actually concealable.

For open carry below a jacket line, consider the Laredo .

Hey SARuger--I do the same thing bit hate the Mike's sidekick holster--the only reason I use it is cause it's about the only option out there that I know of that allows the pistol with a scope on it.

I have an El Paso Saddlery Tortilla and a Galco Outdoorsman, which can be worn strong side or crossdraw.

Right on savt260, with single action. I was thinking of double action safety aspect. That was a great point you made.

Might not be as pretty as leather but a simple Tuff Armor belt holster w/snap thumb break is a very usable holster than costs about $15.

San Antonio Leather rig for my unmodified 3 screw .357. Bought them both new in 1968 for $80. SA Leather may not exist anymore, though.

Another vote for El Paso Saddlery, outstanding work, not cheap, a lifetime investment if you keep it out of moldy conditions. Their Tom Threepersons style is my favorite for nearly all of my SA and DA revolvers. The Austin model is a good copy...Bob Wright's posted pic above is a good example of the TT type, open top holster...BTW, nice rig Bob, who made the belt? Rod

I'm also a fan of the vintage holsters for guns like this, I found an old Roy's holster that I like.
