Silver or Gold Bullets?

Has anyone ever tried to cast and shoot silver or gold bullets? This would be great for that once in a lifetime Moose hunt, one for the record books!

Nope. I wear garlic cloves around my neck instead. Sorry, just had to say that.

I would think that this is exactly what these investors will be doing in the future when the SHTF and the world stops looking like it looks today. Be proactive and load your gold and silver now and hoard lead as if it were gold.

As for a once in a life time hunt...why would you leave anything to chance? Find yourself something at the shop that was designed to bring down that trophy bull. Then pull out that shiny gold bullet and brag that you killed your moose with "one just like this."

No, just lead, but I'm curious... send me your silver and gold and I'll post the results.

I has been tried in the past. Silver is too hard and gold is too soft to grip the rifling well.

It depends on what you're after. Werewolves or Wererabbits?

I believe 24K gold is a little harder than lead. Gold can be alloyed to be even harder. It is heavier than lead also.
I remember some gun mag trying silver, and it was too hard. Gold should work, but the experimentation for precision could get pretty expensive.

I'm sticking with MHI's proscribed use of a silver pellet in a normal slug in a PowrBall configuration.

I actually have about three hundred pounds of lead, half pure soft lead and half wheel weights. I picked it up real cheap at a recycling place. They pay for it real cheap and then turn around and sell it real cheap too. I figure some day lead will be difficult if not impossible to get.

I bet a good jewler could give you specs for the alloys of gold and their hardness. There are probably tables that would let you buy an alloy from a jewler that would be the exact hardness of a typical lead bullet. I bet it would shoot the same too. From an ounce of gold I'm guessing you could probably cast 20-30 bullets, and if you had a good backstop you could recover the gold and recast, that way you could make sure the accuracy is right on.

Wood bullets? Wonder if that would really work (ironwood?) LOLOL

The Japanese used bamboo bullets in aircraft guns during WWII.

Silver is pretty difficult, but apparently can be done (with special technique and equipment). See: http://www.hurog.com/books/silver/silverbullets.shtml

The real question is, why would you want to...

There was a Mythbusters episode recently about using silver bullets. The silver bullets didn't do as well as the lead ones they used to compare them. You could probably find that episode on youtube.

Question about shooting vampires and werewolves. Do the bullets have to be solid silver or can you use silver plated ones? If silver plated would work that would be cheaper and work better since silver is too hard.

the Lone Ranger used special silver mined from his personal secret mine. I really don't think he used pure silver as we were led to believe. He kept giving them away plus he didn't want to kill anyone which was his reason for using silver bullets. So for the once in a lifetime hunts I would suggest using lead.

If you want a special bullet material that's expensive, exotic and reliable, try Depleted Uranium (DU). The miltary makes tanks rounds out of this stuff and they certainly get the job done.
