Where? Remington 7 1/2 Primers...

What is up with the shortage of Remington 7-1/2 small rifle primers?

I can not find any anywhere. Are they all going to Iraq?

Please help.

Remington # 7 1/2 is Remington's "MilSpec" primer that they use in their 5.56X45MM military ammo. # 9 1/2 is their MilSpec that they use in their 7.62X51 military ammo. Since we use a lot of that in the M240 and M60, I imagine those are probably not as readily available as in normal times.

I would imagine they will be kinda hard to find for a while.

Thanks, Racer.....I just discovered from the chart why my use of Rem 7-1/2 in my 6mmPPC shoots differently than when I use CCI 400. Rem is a magnum primer, CCI 400 is not.

No. The CCI NATO equivalents are their #34 and #41, for large and small rifle, respectively. Note that word "equivalent". These primers have the same hardness and chemical mix strengths as the mil spec, but are not actual mil-spec primers. Actual DOD qualified CCI primers are their M34 MIL-SPEC and M41 MIL-SPEC. The latter meet certain additional requirements, like low temperature operation. That said, I doubt CCI actually makes them separataely. As with electronic components, it is more likely they are made at the same time on the same machines to save setup costs, but that the ones packaged as mil-spec go through extra statistical sampling for confirmation testing. I could be wrong (call CCI if you want to check), but that seems most probable.

Oh, the #41's are on the list I missed them 1st time. I can't find any of them either. Oh well I guess I have to keep using Federals for now for my AR15.

Thanks unclenick, you're an encyclopedia of gun related info.

I usually keep a very hea;thy supply of 7 1/2 and 9 1/2 on hand.

There are still a few of them out there. I'd keep looking before substituting for military ammo. You'll find 'em, it just might take a bit of hunting.
