Mossberg 500C Bluing
How do you blue the aluminum action? I am using Casye's bluing. All of the other parts blued nicely but the action. It wont blue at all. What gives? Can you not blue aluminum?
Also how does the shell tube disconnect from the action? |

The receiver is aluminum, which you cannot blue. Its is painted from the factory, it just matches the bluing on the rest of the gun.
And the tube screws in, I wouldn't remove it unless there is something wrong with it.

The magazine tube unscrews from the receiver.
If it's stubborn, use a padded vise grip, but only around the thick, solid end, where the barrel attaches. The rest of the tube is too thin walled and can easily be damaged. Using a thin lube, that can get down into the threads can help, too.

The reciever being aluminum is anodized, a electrical treatment that creates a very thin but hard surface that can be dyed black.
The surface is sealed and the color is there to stay. It will wear in time, the easyest way to restore, is to give it a coat of Duracoat from Brownells. |
