There is Grandview Firearms Training Center in Pfafftown (which is just outside Winston). They have a indoor range. They are working on building a outdoor range in Yadkin County.

Do you know how much it costs to shoot at those places? I'm in Statesville, NC, not far from W-S, but the only two places I know of charge several hundred dollars for a membership fee. No membership, no shooting.

Okay, based on the info provided earlier in this thread, I did a little research.
Rowan County Gun Club is $600 for initial membership fee and $125 annual renewal after that. Grandview Firearms Training Center has a website with lots of info: http://www.gftc.com. Their membership and range use fees are listed there. |

The Rowan county gun club is really nice. That is the club my dad is a member of and I have been there many many times. i go everytime I go on leave. They have a rifle range out to 200 yds I thinkit is, 5 or 6 individual pistol pits and they also have many lanes for shooting skeet to, they are the real nice skeet houses one high and one low, and there are like 12 or 13 dofferent positions to shoot from on the corse. They also have sporting clays as well. WE used to go to the FOP but it was lame. You will be very pleased with the rowan county gun club. It is kinda expensive at first but well worth it. That is right up the road from where my parents live and near my hometown.

Does the FOP have a rifle range and a pistol range? Is it open to non-LEOs? The $600 membership fee at Rowan is only worth it if you can afford it, which I can't, so Rowan is simply not even an option for me.

Wow, there's a lot of you guys close to me. I'm in Wilkes Co.
There's a place out in East Bend, near the Forsyth Co. line called Sportsmans Paradise. I'm pretty sure they have an outdoor range. They are located on Hwy 67, Between East Bend and the county line. I've never been there, I have the room to shoot at home, and it's free!

No Shooters Paradise is on Dinkins Bottom Road off of Hwy 421. The place is closed now but some new owners are working to open it up. When it is done it should have a indoor and outdoor range as well as a gun store.

Thanks for the correction, I grew up on the other end of the county. There is a place off Hwy 67 too though. I've heard the Sheriffs Office get complaints about the noise out there in the evenings.

There is a sporing clays place off of Rockford Rd but I don't know of a range in the East Bend area. At least I haven't seen one and I know every bump on 67 between Winston and Jonesville, at least I though I did.

Aha! I found it. It's on Siloam Rd. off 67 near the river. It's called Friendship Sporting Clays. That's all they have though, there's no target range for pistols or rifles.

If you get to Greensboro, go to Calibers.. an excellent range with very good membership prices. It's handguns only. But a great place.

I will be relocating near Wilkesboro soon from Colorado. Are any of these ranges within say 45 minutes (or preferably less even) of Wilkesboro? Any open to the public and allow pay-per-use or are they all membership only?

How near Wilkesboro? I know that Duncan's runs a range this side of Wilkesboro don't know anything about it's fees. Grandview and Sportsman's Paradise (when it opens) will have memberships.

I'm going to be somewhere right near Miller's Creek when I get there (staying with family) and of course where I will actually settle is totally unknown. Would certainly like to stay in that area because of family but if the NC state legislature makes me too nervous (I hear a bunch of anti-gun idiots) I may well even settle in Tennessee, along with my income producing business and tax dollars. I already left California for that very reason and I am not going back to that same crap with just a new name. I really hope that does not happen of course. Really like NC otherwise.

I'm a recent refugee from CA too. Love it here in NC, but I'm concerned about people turning it into East California. If they do, they should be punished for a crime against humanity.
The way Cali is going, they may soon need a fence along the borders ... of Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona to keep their citizens inside. |

I found a local place that is open to the public for pistol shooting. Rifle and shotgun shooting requires a membership:

Adolph...check out Calibers in Greensboro. Depending on where you are in Winston-Salem, its about 15-20 minutes from you. Its on the western side of Greensboro, right near the airport. I can give you directions if you're interested. Im a member, and though its only indoor handgun and rifle shooting at 25 yards, I think its a great place, and they have great prices, and the staff is very friendly. They were also named the "Best Shooting Range" in the Summer 2004 issue of Unlimited Magazine
Check out their website: http://www.calibers.net/ You wont be disappointed |
