Fitting a barrel to a single shot action
I came across a receiver for a Savage 944 shotgun for the right price, free.
So I ordered a barrel from Numrich. How do I go about fitting it to the action? Lock up is extremely tight |

There are 4 places that could be altered to make it fit looser:
The action pin The barrel lug The barrel breech The receiver breech face. I like to change the cheapest part. If you can get the pin out, take a few thousands off the center of the pin where it contacts the barrel lug. None off the outer parts of the pin that fit the receiver. I have altered the receiver to fit the barrel, when making a upper assembly with a barrel blank. That is a hard way to go.

Thank you very much.
I need to order a new hammer spring for it, so it looks like I'll add a spare barrel pin to the order. Just in case I take too much off on the lathe. |

If you have a lathe you can make the pin, just harden it after you fit it.
