How can people be so stupid?

I mean for real Duh!!!

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (AP) Cooking with gas and a loaded gun is a recipe for disaster.

Antoine Boutte of College Park was storing his .40 caliber Smith & Wesson in the bottom of his gas stove. It was there when he and friend Christopher Henderson decided to make a late-night snack.

Authorities say Boutte cooked some food on the stove at his home at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. As the oven heated up, the weapon's magazine started to melt in the gun well causing the spring and bullets to come out.

The bullets started going off like popcorn. Police say Henderson opened the stove and was hit in the stomach by part of a bullet casing.

He was treated for his injuries, which police say were non-threatening.

On the famous "bright side" that all too often sheds considerably less light than we'd like, I'll bet he won't do that again.

Darwin was probably smiling (in his coffin) anticipating the outcome.

Rounds exploding from heat are not life-threatening, unless the round is in the chamber, obviously..

I'm sure we've all made mistakes comparable to this

I've done some stupid stuff in my life (and likely will again) but at least I've managed to avoid cooking off rounds in my kitchen.

How can people be so stupid? Part 2

http://www.ctnow.com/news/hc-rifle-t...,3655002.story

Ok people have mental issues, but what was the person thinking that sold the gun. When he was filling out the paperwork the guy said to the seller that he was going to use it to kill aliens. Would like to know more about the seller.

Police: Felon Bought Rifle To Stop Alien Invasion

By JOSEPH WENZEL IV, [email protected]

2:33 PM EDT, July 4, 2010

A Fairfield man was arrested Thursday morning after buying a high powered rifle to stop an alien invasion, police said.

Fairfield Police Sgt. James Perez said Dane Eisenman, 57, responded to a classified advertisement for a .30-06 rifle about a month ago. While filing out the paper for the rifle, police said, he mentioned to the seller what he would be using the weapon for.

"He said he was going to use the weapon to kill aliens," Perez said.

The seller was unsure if Eisenman was referring to space aliens or illegal aliens, Perez added. Sgt. Perez said Eisenman told the seller of the rifle every 36,000 years, aliens who live under the sun come to Earth to kill humans, and he needed to be prepared because "They're going to be coming soon."

After the sale of the rifle, the man reported Eisenman to police. Sgt. Perez said Eisenman, who is a convicted felon, is legally prohibited from buying or owning a hand gun or rifle.

Eisenman turned himself into police thursday morning and was charged with charge of criminal possession of a firearm. He will be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 9

Very stupid!

A 30-06 is no good against aliens.

Any Glock owner will tell him what it requires.

Uh, no.

There are mistakes that we all make, and then there are mistakes that the common sense part of your brain should be screaming about during the entire lead-up to the event.

At the time when you think, "Where could I keep my gun? Hm, the oven....?"

Your brain should be SCREAMING about the possible consequences.

That's the difference between common sense and not. The ability to foresee the consequences of doing something stupid, or not.

Very many people today, well, not.

I've said I was going to use a gun to shoot Zombies, but I'd want something different for aliens.

Here's the funny(?) thing. I thought this sounded vaguely like I'd heard it before. A quick Google later:

2008 oven gun
other 2010 oven gun

So, anyway, he's apparently not the only one...

In all my 41 years, I've never had an AD. *Knocks on wood*

Much less multiple SPD's from sticking a gun in an oven.

AD = Accidental Discharge.

SPD = Stupid Person Discharge.

When I was a cop in the military, we would have to send someone to the scene when the fire department responded to anything on base.

Some of the stories I remember reading about and hearing about, involving stuff stored in stoves is pretty funny. Luckily I do not remember anyone having anything other than their pride hurt.

My favorite was the guy who stored a present for his wife in the stove. ("She never cooked anything so I figured it would be a safe place for it.") Apparently he had some old photographs of her family restored and was going to give them to her for her birthday.
She decided she was going to cook something for him and the whole mess had gotten set ablaze.

But I do not remember ever reading about anyone storing a gun or ammo in their stove.

Speak for yourself. I've made some mistakes in my life, but I've never been so all-fired MORONIC as to "store" a handgun, loaded or not in a freakin' STOVE! Some people are too stupid to live and a low-flying plane is gonna get this guy one day.

I am continually amazed by how stupid people can be. I always tell myself to expect stupidity and then be surprised if I don't see it. That way, the only surprise is a positive one and I'm never disappointed. Unfortunately, I just can't do it. Part of me is always saying "Come on, people can't be that stupid!"... but over and over I learn that they CAN be that stupid.

As I sit here typing this I am watching the people at the neighboring camp fly a kite.... tied to a metal flag pole....flying directly over top of the power lines.

Yes, Virginia. People really are that stupid.

in the bottom of his gas stove
Many older stoves have a drawer below the heated compartment suitable for storing cookie sheets or such. Is it possible tis is where he stored it. I spent a summer studying at Penn and had a Jewish room mate who had to "kosherize" our oven. He turned it up full blast for 6 hours or something to do so then tried to make some food. He went to retrieve a pan from the drawer below the oven and received a nice little burn.

I find it hard to believe this guy actually stored the gun in the compartment with the element.

Here yet again...

Another reason not to get a plastic gun!

Stupid human tricks

There was this woman in a rented RV who set the cruise control then went to make a sandwich. She couldn't understand why it ran off the road. There are two things wrong with designing an idiot proof enviroment; you will soon be overrun with idiots that missed their appointment with Darwin, and the tenacity of idiots to be true to themselves is overwhelming.

myth busters did a segment on guns and ammo being stored in the oven and being turned on. I guess it happens more then we thought. Great, now bad guys are going to be looking in my oven when they break in my house. All they'll find in there is my underwear.
