Quentin2 you might be right. However I have a S&W 3913 that gets lots of range time and I enjoy occasionally taking the P38 out. The gunsmith said the P38 was in fine condition and that I could expect to pass it on to my son to shoot and he could pass it on to his son to shoot so long as we limited it to standard 9mm ammunition and no +P, or +P+

Hook, that's probably exactly what your Dad had in mind when he brought it back! (Passing it down as an heirloom.) Can't argue with that!
