Mike is correct. The 590A1 reciever is composed of an aluminium alloy. The recievers on Remingtons are still made of steel.

Dont sweat it the benelli is alloy and it was designed for the military initially, have shot quite a bit of 3"mag at high speed (about 5 a second) slug and buck and your shoulder will give before that reciever will. Ar's hold up ok.
