Montana Gold Bullets? 9x19mm/115 gr....

Any TFLers or reloader ever buy or shoot Montana Gold Bullets?
I'm looking into a bulk order of the 9mm(9x19mm) 115 grain FMJ.
The prices & site looks good.

I only buy 25 to 35k of their bullets a year. Right now you can only purchase one case or 1000 bullet per week from them. I have purchased a case and then waited 8 days before ordering again and that seems to work fine. It was so much better before this past year when I could order 3 cases at a time and get a discounted price. No telling if that option will ever return.

Montana Gold bullets are match grade. Their jacketed bullets are designed more for accuracy than they are for expansion. I believe they are some pretty good bullets to reload with.

The price they list also includes the cost of shipping.

I've shot and 600 of their 9mm bullets that were loaded from Blamtec ammo. 500 were hollow points and the new batch I got are 147 gr round nose. All have been very accurate and feeding issues. I inspected some at random for consistency and they seem really above average. My vote would be go for it without hesitation.

I'm not sure what the limits/restrictions really do to the US consumers but I guess the company wants to be fair & avoid complaints/gripes.

Montana Gold and Precision Delta (both bullet companies) took different paths during this latest shortage. MG went with limiting the amount you could order at one time to allow the greatest number of people to have a chance to purchase some of their bullets. PD didn't change anything but the lag time from placing the order to receiving it went way up. Recently PD lag time is coming down again and MG seems to have a greater variety of bullets available. I should mention both make a very good bullet.

I shoot pistols more than anything else and attend a few matches each month. This results in needing more that a single box of ammo per range trip. I prefer to load my ammo so I tend to go through components on a regular basis.

Clydefrog, I use Montana Gold bullets very regularly in pistol calibers(.380acp,38/.357, and .40) all work very well and I am very happy with the cost and performance.

I've bought lots and lots of the MG 9 mm 115 grain FMJ bullets. They're very good. I like loading with them. I've also used their .38 125 grain JHP's for .38s and .357 Magnum loads. Also very good. Unfortunately, they are limiting customers to one case (about 4,000 bullets per case for the 115 gr 9 mm's; 3,750 for the 125 gr .38's) or one pack of 1,000 bullets per week. Precision Delta has comparable prices for those 9 mm 115 gr FMJ's and allows one to order far more bullets (get 6,000 bullets from PD to get same cost per bullet as the 4,000 bullet order from MG). At this point, looks like PD has an 8 week waiting time for the order to be processed. I've bought from PD, and appreciated that they were accepting back orders. Got that order last fall after having placed it in early spring. I have enough supply that I do not mind the wait time for PD delivery, but if you need them sooner, you can go with MG.

As mentioned, if you choose JHP bullets, you need to know that they are intended to be more accurate (rear-oriented weight) and not intended for expansion.

I use them exclusively. We have 3 different 9mm pistols, they work without issues in all of them. Don't have any experience with mushroom quality, but accuracy is quite acceptable.

I load the 115g JHPs from MG. They've become my go to bullet you simply can't not like them. I order the 4k round case, it makes them much more cost effective. I'm pretty sure my postal worker hates me lol.

I'm in early talks to start a small business doing small lots of 9mm(9x19mm) ammunition & 5.56x45mm(.223).
We are looking at a Dillon reloader system & plan to market to gun shows/flea markets/etc for now.
I like the FMJ style 115gr Precision Delta(PD) bullets over Montana Gold because they seem more capable of dealing in large quantity shipments/small businesses.
I would like to increase our plans to include .40S&W, .45acp, 7.62mm(.308).
I just see the 9mm & maybe 5.56mm(.223) as selling faster & being better to manufacture/logistics.

They are Match Grade. Cheap....I buy them in the bulk form....Loads in several of my guns run right down around an inch at 25 yds!. You can't do better, and you'll have them in about a week from ordering. Rod....

I never load FMJ because they're usually the same price as JHPs. The Montana Gold bullets are great for comp or plinking and their 124 gr. JHP is probably the most commonly used bullet with the IPSC guys that load 9mm Major. But as a defense bullet they're really no better than FMJ and don't want to expand. If you want a good priced bullet that has defense capability, look at the Precision Delta 124 gr. JHP. It looks much like a Hornady XTP except that XTPs have a mechanical interlock that holds jacket and core together. For a little more you can get NOSLER 115 or 124 gr. JHP 250 bullet bulk packs. Personally, I like the 124 gr. Golden Saber quite a lot but they are not available and it looks doubtful that Remington plans to sell them as component bullets any longer. Another one that I've probably shot more than any other 9mm bullet is the older style Rem. 124 gr. JHP. I push them fast at 1238 FPS from my 4.14" SR9. Accuracy and penetration are excellent with expansion above .6". Trying to replicate that load with the NOSLER 124 gr. JHPs and my 9mm carry handload uses the 124 gr. Golden Saber over X grains of Ramshot Silhouette.

As posted, the bullets I & my assoc plan to buy would be intended mainly for target or marksmanship(plinking). I may even talk to the guys about having a label saying it's not intended for regular defense or carry use(s).
We do not plan to start with any JHPs for now. Just simple FMJ bullets like PD or Montana Gold.
If this project were just for R&D or personal use(target-match shooting, range practice) then Id lean towards the Montana Gold bullets over PD. Both seem to have decent QC & ballistics.

Clyde, have you thought about hard cast lead bullets? I only load JHPs in 9mm but shoot a lot of 200 gr. RNFPs and SWCs in .45 ACP. Cast lead is far more economical and there's nothing you can do with an FMJ that a good cast RN won't. Just a thought.

I used about 5,000 Montana Gold 115gr FMJ in my CZ-85. My most common load was 5.3gr Winchester Super Field and a Win small pistol primer. They were very accurate. The only caution is that the brass jacket requires .2 gr more powder to make power factor than bullets with gilded metal jackets.

My assoc brought up cast/lead bullets. I'm not against them per se, but Id prefer to buy/sell FMJ(brass) type bullets.
We are still in the early stages. I'm sure a few plans may change in the next few months.
