Is this a legit offer
wftree-
As you know, we send very few emails to our TFL Members. However, we want to give active TFL Members an option that is currently offered only to new registrants. Beginning several weeks ago, new registrants at TFL are offered an Opt-In option to join the mail list of our parent company, S.W.A.T. Magazine. Members of this list will receive exclusive content, reviews, training tips and discounts directly from S.W.A.T. Magazine. You must join this list directly. We will not automatically enter you. To join the S.W.A.T. mail list, go to http://eepurl.com/eu3do Despite our ownership of TFL these past 10 years, S.W.A.T. has never allowed advertising on our discussion forum, though we are often approched on this. While TFL could easily have been monetized years ago, we have refused this path and will continue to do so. That's one heck of an endorsement for the S.W.A.T. list. You needn't worry about Spam or having your email address "leaked" like so many other lists. That's a promise from S.W.A.T. and your TFL experience is our proof. As an introduction to the S.W.A.T. list, we're offering you a $5 gift coupon, redeemable from the S.W.A.T. Magazine website anytime prior to July 10, 2011. Use it to pick up a PDF back issue at no charge or as a credit toward a subscription or renewal. Your Discount Code will be sent to you with your email confirmation upon joining the S.W.A.T. mail list. To join the S.W.A.T. Magazine mail list, go to http://eepurl.com/eu3do Best wishes from all of us at TheFiringLine.com and S.W.A.T. Magazine Rich Lucibella Publisher You are receiving this email because you agreed to receive emails from the Staff at http://www.thefiringline.com TheFiringLine.com c/o S.W.A.T. Magazine 5011 North Ocean Blvd Suite 5 Ocean Ridge, FL 33435 rev 6.28 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The web site address seems a little dubious and before I get a virus or am asked for my bank account info I want to be sure. The URL sends back to a "Mail chimp" company: http://mailchimp.com/about/mcsv/
Seems a legit service for managing mail lists. K. |

Yes, it is a legitimate offer from SWAT Magazine, TFL's parent organization.
If you're unfamiliar with SWAT Magazine, do yourself a favor and get familiar with it. It's an excellent publication. Along with Mr. Lucibella, TFL's founder and publisher of SWAT Magazine, a number of other TFL forum members/staff are associate with the magazine.

Yes, I see how the eepurl might confuse or frighten. The Mail List is managed by MailChimp. That's their URL. I'm gonna see if we can embed a signup form on our own page to avoid future confusion.
Thanks much- Rich

Thanks guys.
Today I'm working on a project to tie this Forum to the SWAT website and publication so we can direct readers to the Forum to discuss various articles. In our historic attempt to divorce TFL from commercial interest, I think we've overdone our reticence to make S.W.A.T. Magazine a key player here. It'll take me a bit but we intend to become much more involved. Rich

Thanks much Iron.
Not an offer we'll EVER repeat. 98% were thanks. But the 2% objections carried such rancor and vitriol.....sign of the times, I guess. In any case, thanks to you and a couple hundred others for the support....now it's up to US to earn that support. We promise our very best. Regards to all- Rich Lucibella

You mean from people here at TFL? Wow. I guess getting access to this incredible site free, and free of virtually all advertising, just isn't free enough for some people. My suggestion? Cut those individuals loose. It's obvious they don't appreciate the gift that you, Rich, have given gun owners world wide. You owe them nothing, but they apparently feel that you owe them everything. That's sad, and it should not be tolerated.

There you go again, Mike....always mincing your words!
I don't much blame some of the drive-bys. They registered to get a quick question answered and forgot they were even Members here. And I understand getting a complaint from someone who only registered within the past few weeks. They're concerned that this might be SOP for us. But a few are regular posters that should simply know better. When was the last time we did a large mailing to TFL Members? Answer: 2005. We don't exactly qualify as a spam risk. Rich

Hi everyone,
I look around on the forums often but never post. I signed up for the SWAT mail list from the TFL email I received a few days ago. I received a confirmation email with from SWAT magazine that listed my email address and TFL user name etc. I tried logging in at the SWAT magazine site using my email address and it doesn't work. Right next to the login I see a signup for the SWAT mail list. I already signed up for the SWAT mail list via the TFL email, do I have to sign up a second time? Best AOD |

Arsenal-
The problem is that MailChimp is designed to accept Mail List signups from sites like S.W.A.T. or TFL; but it is not designed to register you in the reverse direction. Confusing, I know; but it makes sense from a privacy standpoint. You can Register at TFL and choose to enroll in the S.W.A.T. mail List; but that doesn't give us permission to set you up with an account at the S.W.A.T. Site. Just as you can sign up for an account at the S.W.A.T. site, but that doesn't give us the right to register you at TFL. Finally, you can sign up for the S.W.A.T. Mail List without ever being a member of TFL or S.W.A.T. Bottom line, in your case: You're a TFL Member who chose to enroll in the S.W.A.T. Mail List. While we'd love to have you become a Member at S.W.A.T. also, that's something you have to sign up for separately. Now even I'm confused! Rich
