I'm not familiar with pre-plastic shot cups. Back in 19th century, typically all you got was a wad column of varying components with no cup. Is the date 1892 or 1992?

CHAMPION SHOT awarded to ___________________ 8" sterling silver.I'm trying to match a date to a location of an event, this one more than likely southern new england

Nothing that I'm aware of online.

I'd check w/ the CMP and NRA record keeping offices. My guess is that a silver cup was only awarded at significant matches. But the fact that yours isn't inscribed may indicate that no match took place on that date.
