The Unthinkable: XDx Replaces Custom 1911?
Never thought I'd even consider it, but this little XDs in .45ACP shoots and carries so well, it just might replace my custom Colt CCO for daily carry.
capacity is only one less round shoots just as accurately out to 50yds lighter and more slender Forgive me, John Moses Browning, for I have sinned. ugly not ugly

Must be an interesting switch going from cocked and locked to double action only.
The XDs is ugly as sin, but if it gets the job done and you trust it to keep you alive, then you've found the gun you need to carry. |

I shoot a revolver a lot, so the XDs trigger is like old home week.

I'm another sinner.
I've been a Colt fan my entire life, and still have a Combat Commander that's older than I am all set up for daily carry. I love it. But the XDs is just a handy little bugger, it isn't as heavy, it conceals better, and I like the sights. It just shoots well. I carry it now nearly exclusively. There should be a ten-step program.......

I am big fan of the M&P line. I had a CCO that was replaced by an M&P 9c. The capacity is much greater than my 1911 was. 12+1.

I don't carry my 1911, but I did get an XDs 45 last month. Kind of an ugly little spud, but I like the fact that's it's so compact and easy to carry. Soon as I get the holster I ordered, I'll enjoy having 45 caliber firepower in my carry rotation.
Shoots better than I expected it to. Recoil is not bad for such a small, lightweight piece. |

......Na...Na....Na....Na......./ ( this can't really be happening ...)....
gag ...gag....( as I cough up a 3 lb fur ball ).... ------------------------- But ok, its your gun -- and your money ! You can certainly do whatever you want...even if it makes no sense to me ..../ I think the XD's are a solid gun for the money !! ---- but they won't ever be better than a well made - and well tuned 1911 -- in my view ! |

I used to have a 1911... Back in the 1980s. I've evolved. All my pistols are Tupperware now. Still like my all-steel revolvers though, but also have an LCR.
Love my XDs. |

Well, Doc540, I hope you don't own a dog. It'll eat that plastic thingy.

Yeah, so why don't you send me that gorgeous Colt now, so it gets proper use.

Nice going Doc, and remember you don't have to have anyone tune it for you. A win for you.

I sold my Officers ACP Colts, both the all-steel and the aluminum framed ones. The XDs is easier to shoot well and I just don't like the muzzle jump on the smallest Colt 1911s. I don't think the 1911 "cooks down" into all that great of a small gun.
The Commanders, well, that is a whole other story. Those are great shooters. But for hidden carry, I choose the .45 XDs as my holster gun. Look at it as the 21st century equivalent to the olden day .44 Bulldog revolvers. Small, big-bore, easy to carry. And for the record, I think the two-tone version is, hmmm, "aggressively cute". I find it telling that a 1911 magazine will almost fit right into an XDs. They should have made them compatible.
Thinner, lighter, more compact, and comparable capacity. I can think of few reasons a 3" 1911 would serve in place of an XDs. I think SA really hit this one out of the park. |

I'm glad yours worked out. There are many of us having serious issues with the XD-S - FTF, FTRB and light primer strikes. I really wanted to like this gun for all the reasons mentioned above, but my particular gun has proved itself to be too unreliable for EDC. There is a 36 page (and counting) thread on the XDtalk forum about the issue. I haven't given up on it yet, but my 1911 will continue be my EDC for the foreseeable future.

Now my conscience is working on my head for having reduced the CCO to night stand duty.
