new glass for my new hunting rifle????

Hello everyone.

I am going in a few days to pick up my fn herstal made 270. Just wondering if there is any good glass in say a 3-9x40 or 50. For around 200 dollars.

I now have a Bushnell elite tactical 8-24x44 that I had on a target gun but is too much may for me when I hunt the woods of pa.

Although I am going to put the Bushnell 8-24 on it and see how well it shoots. Any advice would be appreciated. Btw how are the redfield scopes I am beginning to see in local shops.

Sorry that would be a model 70 made by FN Herstal.

If your range is $200, I'd stick with Bushnell. I personally had good lock with their Banner series. Clear, bright and holds zero very well.

If I have it figured right, you can get a 3-9X40 Bushnell Elite from Optics Planet for $168.

Im not sure how it is where you are, but My walmart has a few Nikon prostaffs 3-9x40mm that they have listed around $165..Great scopes and leaves you a few extra bucks for another box of rounds

Yeah I have thought about the prostaff. My local shop has one for 159 with the bdc reticle. However I bought one two years ago and the scope was junk from the factory. My shop traded it out for a Bushnell for me.

How are the Leopold vx2 scopes?

Walmart has a 50mm Leuopold for $299. I was tempted. I did not get to look through it. Surprised you didn't like the Nikon. I bought a Prostaff for my 22 mag and really like it.

Make sure that the stock is set up for the sight height of the scope you pick.... some of the bigger belled scopes require rings so high that you can't keep a good cheek/stock weld and still get a good sight picture..... you can get a comb raising kits if you want a large scope......

Leupold VX-1.

A couple of years ago I'd have said to either go up to the VX-2 or look at other brands. But in 2012 the VX-1 is the best all around hunting scope in the $200 range. They have gone up slightly to $230. I bought one during the summer for $199, but it is well worth the extra cash. Leupold has upgraded their entire line in 2012. You are basically getting last years VX-2 at VX-1 pricing now. The VX-2 is even better as is the VX-3.

For $10 more I think the long range reticle is the way to go.

There are some other $200 options that have good glass and are decent scopes. But the Leupold offers nearly 5" of eye relief vs 3-3.5" on most of the others. They are considerably lighter and trimmer. Have the option of being customized either now or later with features such as turrets or custom reticles if you desire. You get dead nuts reliable scope with a no questions asked repair warranty forever.

Burris FFII is going to be the best in that price range. It's got better glass than the Leupold VX-1 (which is the old VX-II), better glass than the Prostaff, and the majority of other choices in that price range. The only other option I'd really consider is the Vortex Diamondback or Viper if you can find one in that price range. It's also a great choice. The next step up would be the Zeiss Conquest, but it's double your price.

I'm a Leupold fan, and have been for years, but last year I bought a Burris FFII just to see how good it was. It is a very good scope and I'm very pleased.

Wow I just checked out the redfield revenge rifle scope and that is what I am going to buy.

Also I did not know they were made by Leopold.
