Okay, here is what we did at our club. It was not a cowboy action shooting side event as we are not SASS-affiliated, we just sort of stole the idea. Okay, I just sort of stole the idea.
We got some large pieces of cardboard. To these we nailed 5 regular size paper plates. The nice thing is that we bought a big pack of them and have left-overs for club carry-in picnics, or more shoots. Shooters stood 12 yards away (or so). Each got 5 shots, unless it was a derringer, in which case it was two-shots. Scoring was done on the basis of time and number of shots on paper. Miss a plate and you got 1 second taken off your time. Pistols were to be put in a box to see if they were true pocket pistols. We didn't get the box, but that did not matter much as everybody pretty much stayed in the groove with a small gun. We had an Iver Johnson .32 S&W safety hammerless, a Sharps 4-barrel .22 short derringer, two over under 2 shot derringers, one in .32 ACP, the other in .38 Special, a .380 Mauser HSc, a Colt 1903 Pocket in .32 ACP, a Star Firestar in 9mm, a Springfield Arms XD in .40 S&W, a Cobray side by side in .45/.410, a Smith & Wesson new model snubbie, a Hopkins & Allen .32 S&W, and some others I forget at the moment. The guys loved the event so much that they hardly wanted to break for our monthly business meeting, and wanted to have another pocket pistol shot in a week. Pretty simple. Can get five shooters through before you have to change out targets. The Doc is out now.
