Winchester 209 primers

I am hearing mixed reviews on Winchesters 209 primer designed for muzzle loaders. Any experience with them? Got a favorite 209 primer?

Used about 20 of them before stopping. Very dirty! I use Remington Kleenbore for regular powders and they are nice and clean. FOR BH 209 I use a CCI shotgun primer.

The Winchester 777 primers are specifically designed for use with 777 powder. They greatly help to eliminate the dreaded crud ring that's formed by shooting the 777 pellets using the hotter standard primers. And to a lesser extent they work the same way with loose 777.
They were the solution to a very widespread crud ring problem and still are.

Winchester 777 primers are a scam. Tried them with granular 777 powder. They made the crud ring worse and there was more blowby. Winchester 777 primers cost twice as much as Winchester 209 primers.

Last time I shot my Knight rifle I got velocity variations as much as 400fps using 777 pellets. I don't know if it was the Win 209's or the pellets but I went back to loose 777 and will try again with different primers. If I don't get consistent velocities I will go back to my TC Black Diamond with caps.
