Hi Weatherby,

It looks nice. I was getting pretty excited over the Beretta 391 Gold Parallel Target, which I was told was regular wood, until I confirmed it is Extra Grain. The Sport II is the same kind of $$$ and the SuperSport has always fired me up, but it is black synthetic and I have a yen for wood. The only Beretta Semi that holds my attention is pretty pricey; the Teknys Gold Target. For the same money Benelli has the Legacy Sport (but it appears to have "enhances wood").

I will probably be banging away with the 870 Express until hell freezes over. A nice solution is to get a 682 but I just don't think I should spend that kind of money; not that the SP1 may not be a bad move.

The Supersport is an additional $280, and the only difference is the stock. The Supersport Peformance is a customized, upgraded version, which costs $900 more.

Are you sure that the Performance Super Sport is "custom". It has some additional goodies but it looks to me to be a production gun, a very nice one, but still not custom.

IMHO, there is a bridge between hunting light and clays light. I find benellis to be a bit light for clays, so mine all have Briley wieghts on them. Why 20ga for SC? At the local range, the target setter likes to throw in some tricky 50-65yard shots that need a 12ga 1 1/8oz. I also like the comfortech stock over the walnut, it holds up better in the rainy competitions and does reduce a bit of recoil.

I have this very gun, but I did add a C&H forend weight to it. (8 oz) Also have the same gun in 12 ga.... also w/ same forend weight.

"Custom" in the sense that the gun is upgraded by Briley Manufacturing, not by Benelli.

I have the supersport models - a 12ga in 30" and a 20ga in 28" ....they're very good guns ...( mine are about 5 yrs old ) ..and they've held up very well.

I use them more as "rain guns" or "travel guns" or "training guns for the grandkids" ...where my primary guns are all Browning O/U's .../ but they fill a niche for me that makes sense. I like the comfort tech system - and you can't get that in a wood stock of course ...so the wood stocks will give you more recoil.

If I shoot the super sports myself - I do add about 1 lb to each of them -( for better swing characteristics) .. using lead golf club tape ...and 8oz under the forend ..and 8oz inside the stock ..keeping the balance point the same. Then I can quickly pull the weight out for one of the kids to shoot it.

The added feature on this model - is the way the top of the receiver comes off - after you remove the barrel / so it makes it really easy to remove the bolt ( and firing pin, etc ) and the trigger assembly for a quick, and thorough, cleaning to get at everything - and reassemble easily in 10 min.

On the couple of occasions I've used it waterfowling - I've just taped it up with camo tape...to take the shine down.../ and its been fine / but I'm more of a clays or upland bird hunter...and not much of a hunter these days.

new the supersport in my area is listing for about $ 1875 but I did see one at my local gunshow this weekend - 12ga 30" and seller was asking $ 1,550 and probably would have taken $ 1,400 - $ 1,500..../ but its a model worth looking at in my view.

What a great gun...I have an m2 and love it so much Im tempted to sell other guns to replace them with Benellis!! Such a great combination of cosmetics and performance. IMO really is hard to find a gun that shoots as advertised and is so dang appealing. I want them all but I've been hooked on my next one being the 20ga ultra light or the legacy 20ga. Love their shotguns and would really like to see if their rifles are in the same class. The R1 in walnut/30-06 is looking pretty sweet

I shot a few stations with a Beretta AL391 Teknys Gold 12 gauge not long ago... I was certainly impressed...
