I have a Rugger Blackhawk 38/357, with the 9MM cylinder.
Barrel length 4 5/8" Blued.
I have keeped the gun in excellent condition.
I have Cleaned and Oil it after every firing. The pistol has about 3500 rounds through it, mostly 38 Spl, and is less then 2 years old.
About 4 or 5 months ago I notice very small pitting or maybe it looks more like it has been sand-Blasted in spots throught out the inside of the bore, this seemed to have gotten very slowly gotten worse. Also accuracy has decreased.
Does anyone have any Idea what is causeing this. I would like to try and get an Idea of the problem before sending it back to Ruger for 6-8 weeks.

Thanks
Tony Z

Tony, I'm not sure what might be causing it. Could it possibly be leading? That would show up as off color. It might also be copper fouling. Hard to say without seeing it. George

Its not leading, I no what copper and lead buildup look like. There is no buildup, the rifleing has sharp edges. If I did'nt know that the barrel had been keeped clean, I'd say it was pitting from abuse and corrosion.
Guess maybe I'll have to post the what the problem was after ruger fixes it.

Thanks for your help George.

Tony

BTW Could Stainless steel brushes cause a problem like this?

Tony, I wouldn't think so. If you're sure it's pitting then I'd see what Ruger will do for you. If it's not under warranty you might look at having the barrel lapped. But if the pitting is very bad at all you'll be better off just rebarreling. George
