kahr CW9

My Kahr had a round nosedive under the feed ramp midway thru the mag. This problem locked up the gun. I'm guessing bad mag. Anyone else have this problem with a Kahr.

I have eight Kahrs and no, I've never had a nosedive feed in the middle of a mag. Handload ammo? Old mag? Follower OK?

yes. nose-dives can occur with greater frequency with Kahrs.

Kahrs are probably the most notorious nose diver guns.

It is simple why too. Look at a loaded mag. You will notice not other gun has such a steep free floating angle on the second round in the mag. This round can move forward. Take a full mag and shake it.

That round then hits the ramp--nose dive.

I am not saying everyone Kahr does this. Nope. But their mag design is most prone to allow such a situation.

My P380 will allow nose dives all the time with flat nosed bullets. Round nose is fine and I always tap the mag on my hand before loading gun to make sure all rounds are pushed all the way back.

3 people with Kahrs that have nose dived.

I am not picking a fight. I am not saying they all do it. However, I have never heard of a nose dive in any other gun. Kahrs? every so often.

I am saying they are more prone to it. The other manufacture is Kel Tec. They can nose dive too. "Smilies" (google) are caused by the ramp hitting the next round. It can also cause the round to get under the ramp

Did you do the Kahr mag prep as discussed on their forum website? If you haven't, then do so. I did prior to firing, have never had a nosedive issue or any issue at all

My first kahr came from a shooter that could make his cw9 run clean for one mag. All I did was clean it , libe it and shot a good brand of 124gr ammo and started shooting it. At 400 rounds I order the smaller cm9 and sold my cc i had. That to ran great. Now on the third kahr and still trouble free.

Most problems with new polymer kahrs is cleaning and lubeing, useing good ammo and have the ability to hold on tight enought to allow it to function well .

I haven't had that problem with either of my Kahr's. My CW45 had some issues out of the box, but a replacement spring (for slide lock) sent by Kahr fixed my issue in less than a week. I would try running a different type of ammunition through the magazine and see how it goes. I have shot both of my Kahrs quite a bit, and haven't had to clean/replace the magazines (outside of the normal wipedown after reange sessions). I leave them loaded year round, and have done so for the last three years without incident.

No, never saw it, and none of my three Kahrs (the oldest is almost seven years old) has ever had any trouble. One PM9, one P45, one PM45.
Just put a CW380 on order. That will be number four.

Never have had this problem with my early PM9 or my recent CW45.

In fact I've never read of that problem on the Kahr forum since joining it in 2009.

Saying you don't experience them in your many Kahr handguns doesn't tell a complete story. Look it up on the kahr website.

Heck, it's not like I am making it up. People now have a tool called google that can give a very rough estimate of information.

The short barreled Kahrs are a bit sensitive. You have to (1) break them in with about two hundred rounds, (2) keep clean, and (3) keep a fresh recoil spring in them. I have also heard that the PM/CM 9s did not like the seven round mag as well as the six round mag that is standard with it. That is my experience as well in limited shooting with a seven round mag.

Recognizing a gun's limitations or weaknesses doesn't mean it's not worth buying. I find I can shoot this little pistol well and, if I do my part, it is reliable. I often carry mine in a pocket holster. YMMV.
