1911 grip bushings and screws stuck together

I'm trying to install a set of Pachmayr grips on my Colt Government series 70 and the grip bushings unscrewed instead of the screws coming out. I've tried gripping the bushings with pliers and copper sheet to protect the threads but no luck. I'm thinking of using threadlock on the bushing threads and reinstalling the grips, waiting a couple days for the threadlock to set, and trying to remove the screws again. But I just have a feeling that will be a waste of time. I don't see a way to heat the bushings without burning the original wood grips.

Any ideas?

Get four new bushings. Stake and loctite them in place. Do not overtighten.

Get four new screws. Do not overtighten.

I have always used copper jaws in a vise to grip the bushing, then a good screwdriver to turn out the screw. If that fails, nothing else will work; just scrap both parts and buy a new bushing and screw(s). Then stake the bushing in so it won't come out again.

Hi Walt, Jim. Thanks for the replies.

I figgered those were my best options. I guess I'll just try the copper and vise thing and if that doesn't do it I'm probably gonna just split the wood slabs and write em off. I put Pachmayrs on my Detonics 20 plus years ago and it hasn't seen the original wood slabs since.

Ah hah, success. I tried vise-grip pliers and copper instead of the regular pliers and the screws broke loose. Saved the original grips.
