I think it will be phased out, but not until they phase out oil first.

The reason I ask is because I don't want a round that is going to be rendered obsolete in the next 20 years
Although the chances of that are too slim to even mention, so what if it was phased out?
Brass, bullets and dies will still be around for loading your own.
Just buy a reloading setup and sleep well at night knowing your ammo supply is pretty endless...

Around here in NH it seems like the 1911 is the only gun they can keep in stock. I think its becauseit only has an 8 round mag.

Not until the Phaser comes online.

Maybe not then.

You guys think that it would be smart to wait a few months to get one? Or are prices up for good?
Can't speak for other areas, but from what I see locally (and on-line) revolvers and 1911s are about the only things that have not seen a significant run-up in prices or shortages in supply.

There is never a bad time to buy a 1911 and I don't think there will ever be a better time...

The 45 ACP isn't going to be phased out. but to the OP, neither is the 9MM. the ammo crisis will end, and 9MM will be as easy to find as any other.
One question for the OP though, What is your intended use of the pistol?

Why wait, there are several 1911 style pistols available in the $500 to $800 range that are good and have a good warranty to boot.
And many other platforms not based on the 1911 chambered in 45 ACP as well.

The main use of the gun would be as a HD tool. I have heard through the grapevine that a 45 is legal to use in WI for deer but I have a rifle for that anyways.

On a slightly different note, the .45acp is also one of the easiest cartridges to reload and works well with a plethora of different powders and bullet weights.

In a word, no. The 45 acp isn't going to vanish any time soon.

With that in mind a 45ACP pistol would be an excellent choice. Either the classic, but still very viable all metal 1911, or any number of offerings in modern Tupperware.

You can still buy ammo for the 45 colt, 38spl and 7.62x25mm. Ammo sticks around long after cartridges fall out of favor with government agencies. I wouldn't worry about the 45 being "41 Action Express'ed" anytime soon.

The .45 ACP will be phased out this month as totally obsolete. Watch next month's Guns and Blasting for the introduction with great fanfare of the new and super powerful 11.25 x 23mm auto pistol cartridge. Then the 9 x 19mm will be phased out in April and the new and powerful .355 ACP will be introduced in May.

And so it goes.

I don't think its going anywhere. Everyone loves the .45 ACP. The term "Forty-Five" just sounds daunting. I love the 9mm, but nothing hits as hard as a 230 gr .45 ACP hollow point. I am now carrying a .45 ACP Glock and doing about 75% of practicing with the 9mm.

On another note, with the new 7 round magazine limit in NY, I think a lot of people are going to start carrying more .45s. If you can only have 7 in the mag, go big!

Yes, the 45 GAP made it obsolete.

It has been around for more than 100 years, lots of guns have been made to shoot it and many are still very popular. Many more are being produced and will continue to be produced, and as long as there is a market it will be there.

Any way you slice it, it has a long history of effectiveness as everything from an excellent handgun round to an excellent submachine gun round.

I think that as long as there are 1911 shooters this cartridge will survive, but there are just so many other guns that shoot it.

9 and 45 seem to be increasing in popularity with 40 being squeezed out. Just my perception, don't know what's reality.

.45 ACP forever

Not likely will .45 auto be phased out ever. If you owned one you would know why. It is easily the most brillant combat pistol ever made. The round is also one of the most effective man stopping cartridges ever.

The last handgun found by archeologists in some distant future will be a 1911. And it will probably fire dead center after getting some oil.
