turkey chokes?

Bought a new turkey gun this year (mossy 535). Been playing around with loads and trying to pattern the best ones. So far I have found some acceptable loads for my gun/ choke. Finding that NO4 shot in 3" shells works pretty good, mostly rems are best. Patterns under 30 yds are really dense. going out to 40 and 50, I would still have probably put them down but only 4-5 good hits in the head neck area. Currently using a .670 choke xxfull. What I was wondering is does anyone shoot this particular gun, if so what loads work good for you. Also would it be worth it to go to a tighter choke tube, or a ported one. I know that carlsons has them as tight as .640. thanks

it is 22" barrell

I found my gun shoots denser patterns with #6 shot than #4. The Win1300 I use has a 26" barrel and with the 4" extended, ported, factory Winchester turkey choke, makes my barrel 30" long. Longer barrels throw tighter patterns than shorter barrels. I use the cheapie Remington Nitro Turkey Loads. They work great, and are much cheaper than all those "super technologically advanced" loads. LOL

Try Remington 3" 1&5/8 ounce #5 Heavyshot with a Primos Jelly Head .660 extended ported tube.

try an undertaker choke tube by H.S. Strut

My 20" Browning A5 has an Undertaker choke. Never failed me yet. It is deadly. I have killed turkeys from 20-65 yards. Of course, the 65 yd bird took a second shot to anchor him for good. He was flopping around like he not might not be ready for the bag, so I put an insurance shot into him.

I use 6's lead shot.

I also agree Underground choke tubes by H.S. Strut. You can probably go down to .660 or .650. They are expensive so if you know someone thats got .650 or .660 try to borrow and see if they throw tighter patterns than your Mossberg xx. Keep in mind that some guns loose the tight pattern when you go down to the tighter chokes especially on the overbored Mossbergs. I think the 535 is not overbored but I am not sure.

My shotgun is an 870 with with a Kicks Gobblin Thunder choke tube. I use Winchester Xtended 3in. #5 shot.

+ 1, both my turkey guns pattern better with #6 shot. Thats all I use.
