savage 93r17 tr

I'm new here so here it goes..I have a savage 93r17 tr and I want to shoot 250 to 300 yards with it but I don't want to lose the 25 to 50 yard shot.I know that i can go with a 25 moa base but how will that do on the 25 and 50 yard shots.Do they make a 15 moa or 20 moa base for this gun and what scope should I use.I just want to do it right

Hi. 250 to 300 yards is too far for a .17HMR. It's a 150 yard cartridge at most. Only has 136 ft-lbs of energy with a 17 grain bullet at 100. Sighted in at 100(it'll be about .75" low at 50, an inch or so low at 25. Close enough for small game) the Hornady 20 grain bullet drops 10" at 200 with just 75 ft-lbs of energy.
"...don't have a lot of money to waste..." Who does? I wouldn't bother with MOA bases for it. Your rifle not come with bases?
No point in a high magnification scope either. Although lots of guys do. Personally, I wouldn't go more than 8X. Your budget will decide which scope. The Nikon 3X-9X-40 at Optics Planet would do nicely. On sale now for $129.95 and they ship for free. They have bases made for your rifle too. http://www.opticsplanet.net/dnz-dedn...ope-mount.html
