Winchester Model 97 date of manufacture?
Would anyone out there be able to tell me the date of manufacture of my USGI model 97 trench gun?
The serial number is at 6 o'clock on the receiver, and appears as follows: E 6749XX Thank you. 'coach

Theres a gun with soem history behind it. The 97 replaced the 93 (which were widely recalled and replaced with 97's) with the advent of smokeless powder. Had two production runs, the first one was a one peice gun, second was able to break apart at the join of the the barrel/magazine, and the action. Was in production for a long time.
Used them in WWI to shoot grenades out of the air as they were tossed from trenches. Hows that for a stressful game of skeet
