August 2008 Photo Contest Voting Poll

Vote for your favorite photo in the contest thread.

The entries in the voting poll are listed in the order in which they were received.

Discussion of the photos and photographers is allowed in this thread.

NOTE: It is obvious that there needs to be a slight change in the rules regarding maximum image size. The rules will be updated to indicate a maximum image width. As I posted the poll, I encountered an image or two that were large enough to need to scroll horizontally in order to view the entire image. Several are quite large, and even though they don't exceed the maximun file size, they do exceed the size of a normal display page.

I came across several images that were posted as attachments. If you don't lnow how to post an image inline, which makes viewing much more convenient, go to the Suggestions, Questions and Tech Support forum and readone of the many topics on posting images. If you post an image as an attachment it does not disqualify your entry, but it may not get reviewed by voters. So you may want to take the trouble to learn how to post images inline. Don't depend on staff to do it for you.

What happened to the photo of the MP5? I think that was my favorite, I set it as my background photo on my computer. Maybe it was too large.

Mine had to go to #33. Kristop's pic definitely had my attention to his clean yet attactive style.

But, Tao's won me over. I must admit, I did allow my emotions sway me a bit in it. But, since it's wide open on reasoning to pic the best, I chose his.

PlayboyPenguin's pic caught my eye due to the attention of the artwork involved in that 1911. The slide/frame fit looks so perfect, you'd think it was doctored...

My final thought: There are some photos here that should be posted again in next month's contest if not won in this one. There's stiff competition IMO...

Some(most) deserve it more than me, but i give myself the vote to encourage me to try again next month. I'm working on new techniques and backgrounds so hopefully i will improve every month. I'm even newer to photography than i am to guns.

Some pictures where interesting, others like Longrifles #37 where almost breath-taking. I'd like to work my way towards breath-taking. Unfortunately, to ever win, i'll have to wait for Playboypenguin to have computer troubles for a whole month.

I had to go with LongRifles (#37). That rifle, the color and the lighting were just out of this world. Awesome photo!!!

Darren007 is right. Most shades of blue are usually my favorite colors. Being what looks like a professional paint job and a lefty to boot makes that pic a definite show-stopper.

For me it's a no-brainer, Sun-Tao gets my vote.

As a vet, that hit's home...

Lot's of good pix here. I particularly liked #s 6, 13, 37 & 39. In the end Playboy's "visual aid" close-up got my vote. I almost didn't vote for his because it really bothers me that his utility photo is better than my serious artistic effort!

Long Rifles

I had to go with long Rifles, that is not just a gun, it is a piece of artwork. Beautiful Weapon.

Ditto, as usual there were many great pics this time...that one just slammed home for me. A soul tugging reminder that our freedoms here...are never free.

Same boat here. That one did it for me. Not a veteran but that one still got mine.

I voted for HKCHEF's pic (post #10) of the H&K on the orange bucket. Awesome form and color and a great job of making a simple object (the bucket) a thing of beauty.

I liked ArmySon's, but it violated rule 10 of the contest.
Quote:
10. Do not post images of military hardware that you don't actually personally own.
My next favorite was radom's, but while the layout of the photo was excellent (as a former Cav guy, loved those spurs!), the lighting was bad. So I voted for Citizen Carrier's photo of his M1 in the rifle rest.

Went with the majority plurality.

But loved Harley Nolden's - not just the rifle, but the presentation of the picture. Cameras with big objectives, high optical zoom and incomprehensible resolutions can only get you so far.

I went with Maximus, what can I say, something about a hot woman with a big gun.

I almost voted for myself but mine is probably one of the worst, I don't know why its so grainy idk, it doesn't look like that one my computer.

Really some beautiful pictures on here, and hopefully I'll produce a better picture this month.

IZinterrogator makes a point. I guess the poignancy of that image has an effect. I plead guilty. In fairness, we will remember this next time.

Thanks, IZ.
