7.62 X 51 mil. surplus (.308)
I was given 500 Chillean 7.62 nato berdan primed cases and the pulled 147 grain non magnetic bullets (FMJ BT). I have cleaned and resized 100 to start with. Cases are 2.010, bullets have a .016 deep crimp indentation. I would prefer not to attempt to crimp at the same location. I can seat to just above the crimp indentation and the OAL would be 2.700. Does this number look good?
I will start my first run of 20 with 42 grains of H-335 for use in an early Springfield M1A. The date stamp is 75 so think they are non-corrosive. Any additional info would be appreciated. |

2.7 looks good to me. I actually try for 2.75 on my .308 ammo, but that's because it perfectly fits my feedway spacing. I worried a lot about this at first, but different brands have different OAL's. I personally don't worry about the groove, because I don't crimp. Instead, I just fit the round to my gun... and link it. (Just not more than 30/belt per Ohio law)
