Modern pocket guns / mouse guns

I just wondered whether there are any recent pocket gun designs other than from Ruger and Kel-Tec? Besdes, are their any new super small guns in .22 or is .380 or pergaps .32 the absolut minimum?

"modern" I consider something developed after 2000 or thelike, polymer, picatinny-rail etc. - with all or most the features you'll also find on last-generation full size duty guns...

Pocket carry is difficult to define.

I really like the S&W Shield. Some consider a big pocket gun. I consider it a small belt gun.

Anyways. You have lots of options.

S&W bodyguard 380
Colt mustang (?) 380
Kahr 380s
Sig 238

I would recommend at LEAST a 380 though.

I don't like pocket carry for multiple reasons but it is easy and encourages you to carry more.

Available now for a few years, but the smallest .380 award goes to the Seecamp. Pricey but well made, solid stainless and of course... very, very small.

Seen here with another popular .380.

The Keltec PF9 is nice, light, reliable and holds 7+1 of 9mm. I think it's still the thinnest 9mm you can buy. But the M&P shield looks to be close.

Unfortunately not all PF9's are reliable. you are lucky if you bought one that is reliable out of the box. I bought a brand new PF9 from the LGS and mine had issues.

I would suggest the Taurus 709Slim if you want something in the same price range and size. IMO it is "updated" design and will still pocket carry easily. Mine even fit in the same holster I used on the Pf9.

For those who doubt Taurus reliability, I owned both the 709 (9mm) and 740 (40cal) and both were flawless and never gave me any problems.

The masterpiece arms protector 380 is basically identical to the seecamp in size and only runs about $300. I have one coming in the next couple of weeks so I can give a range report soon

Here is a pick of it next to a P3AT

I think the newest trend now is to the smaller (almost, as I see it) pocket 9MM's. Ruber LCP, Beretta Nano, Kel Tec PF9, Taurus 709, S&W Shield, and KAHP PM/CM9. I have the KAHR CM9, and did get a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster for it, but although being small it is noticeably larger, and heavier in the pocket than my LCP. Also difficult to get a reliable draw from some tighter pockets with smaller openings. It now is carried in a Theis IWB hybrid holster It's much less noticeable, and more comfortable there than in my pocket. My Elsie still rides in my front pocket unnoticed by others, or me!
Now if you really want to lay out the bucks there's always the $1000+ Rohrbaugh R9 http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...s_id/411535112

The Kahr P380 is one of the premier offerings in a 380 pocket gun. Very light, yet not as painful to shoot as most little 380s, great feel and ergonomics and a long, smooth trigger that is the best on the market.

Bodyguard 380 gets my vote. Usable sights and a better trigger than most in the class.

Hello Hal,,,

Boberg has a unique feeding sequence.

Instead of pushing a round forward into the chamber,,,
A Boberg pulls a round back out of the magazine,,,
Then it pushes it forward into the chamber.

Click here to see a video of it's action.

He did mention Mini Mouse guns, didn't he! Yup I like my PT22 Poly as well, but it doesn't get carry use. It is a whole bunch of fun to dance pop, and beer cans with though. As an added bonus the size, feel, and long trigger pull is similar enough to my LCP that I can get a lot of practice for it at 22 rifire prices!!!
If one is confident with a rimfire for CCW, or SD it makes a good one. By the way, the DeSantis Superfly pocket holster for my Elsie Pea fits the PT Poly like it was made for it!

Future CCW

Heizer "Double Tap" in 9mm or .45, has the potential to lead in this category. They need to get it to market before more anti-gun Justices are appointed to the Supreme Court.

It’s my understanding that Heizer Double Tap just lost their contract with the manufacturing company and is looking for another company to take up the job of building the gun. This looks to me like the loss has caused the usual funding problems and may push the pistol into the vaporware category.

Rembrandt-

no offense, but what a crappy holster for such a nice gun!! Just kidding, Uncle Mike's pocket holsters are very convenient.
