30-06 Imp. long range loads?

I am looking for a good long range load for the 30-06 Imp. I am trying to work up a very good long distance load with the 168 gr. Hornady HPBT Match bullet. I know there is some data out there, but I would like somone that has had some experience with a favorite load for the Ackley. Thanks folks!

I fairly new to the 30-06 AI. I have only been loading for it for about 6 months. What I have found in MY rifle is that the 180's and the 165's are about equal in velocity at Max pressure. But, I have been using fairly slow powders like 7828 and R-22, maybe if I switched to a little faster burn the 165's would speed up a bit. If you are looking for speed, I would start with R-19, IMR 4350 or N-550.

My standard 30-06 likes H4350 at 56 gr behind a 180 interbond and at 57 gr behind a 165 BTSP. 2800 fps and moa @ 100 yds. Good hunting loads. On another forum, a match shooter gave me his 1000 yd recipe: RL 22 60.4 gr, 190 SMK 2900fps, cloverleaf 3 shots@ 200 yd. I haven't tested it myself yet. BE WARNED; HOT LOADS!! With F-C brass, 91/2 rem primer, and 57 gr h4350 I reached a hot load with a sticky bolt!! However, 56 produced my best group. And thr RL 22 recipe is over the max load. Read your manual and start at the starting loads.

For a "very good long-range load", you generally want to use the highest BC bullet that will give you a reasonable velocity. In .30-06 Imp, I would think this would be a 175 - 210gr VLD.

I use 165 gr. Hornady BTBT and 168 gr. Sierra HPBT Match with 57 grs. of IMR 4350 with excellent results in both of my 06's. Mine are not Ackley Improved tho. It's a hot load and runs over 2900 FPS out of my 26 inch barrles but I've experienced no problems with it.

I'm not an expert by any means but it would probably be helpful if you told us how long the rifle barrel was. Bolt, semi, or rolling block would probably help as well. And what's long range? 600yds 1000yds?

I'd like to suggest that a 180gr bullet or even a 200gr might be a bit more accurate than the 165gr at 1000yds

This load is pretty hot so cut it back at least 10% and work up.

48gr H4895 with a 165gr boattail should get you close to 2900fps.

Hornady H4895 is a copy of the powder used in government .30-06 rounds. It burns fairly fast.
