Looking for load data for the bullets sold by DCM. I am using 4064 powder. To be used in an M1 Garrand and a 1917 US Enfield. Both 30-06.
I have tried 4 loads of 41 43 45 and 47 gns of 4064 powder. Had the best luck with 43 and 45. Will try 43.5 44 and 44.5 and see how I do. Have not tried the M1 yet. Have you tried searching the on-line sites of the powder companies? Severa of them have their manuals on-line.

I too am working up some loads with the 173
but in a .308. The Garand likes IMR 4064 very well and you should do well by starting out with a load of 47.5 and working on it. The bolt gun will probably be happy with another load but you will be able to find one that both will like. Just remember that the Garand, being a gas operated firearm is much more demanding of what you feed it. |

You know, it takes a few to find your very first post on TFL.

FWIW,
The Lake City National Match 173 grain round (M72/M118) is as follows: 173/175 grain Boat tail on top of 47.5 grains of 4895. An equalivalent load (according to my notes) using 4064 works out to: 47 grains. I used this load for a couple of seasons and switched to Accurate 2520. Like stated earlier, start with 45 grains of the 4064 and work up. Go to IMI's web site: http://www.imipowders.com. They have their reloading data on line.

We are quite the archaeologist aren't we Hank?
Speaking of the 173 grainers, where in heck do you get those from??? Is that on the DCM webpage? I remember the old guys at the Fort Meade,MD rifle club ordering these, but I was only 14 or so and don't remember the details. |

I purchased the bullets from DCM a while back. I am using 4895 now in the Enfield and Garrand.

I got a few thousand from the DCM a while back myself through my club I beleive. That was back when they would motor freight ammo to you
Poodleshooter, yeah, I got to digging mainly to see how healthy the database was. Some pretty good post back then as well. Regards |

Poodleshooter: I believe Graf and Sons currently carries the M72 173 gr. projectiles and I know that Jeff Bartlett at GI Brass (www.gibrass.com) does, too. I just used my last 100 today, so I'll be placing an order for more tomorrow with Jeff.
I run this through my M1903A3 and my M1917 but not my Garands. Current accuracy load for my M1917 is 44.5 grains of IMR 4895 PD in either military LC or HXP cases. -- Mike |
