12 gauge and .30-06?

Hey guys,
I live in the NE part of PA and the only hunting I do is turkey and deer. For this I have a 20 gauge Mossberg 500 and a 336 Marlin in .30/30. Having said this, I've recently had the urge to buy another Mossy in 12 gauge (24" barrel). Now, I'm really thinking that I have all that I need for what I do. I just thought that It would be nice to have a 12 gauge.

Another thing that has been nipping at me is the .30-06. Also a good cartridge to add to the fold, but again is it needed with the .30-30 (and leverevolutions) around? I have been eying the Savage model 110 GLXP3, any thoughts?

Mike,

There no point in fighting it.... give into it.... you know you want to.... Just kidding.

The 12GA will come in handy for turkey hunting.... besides you don't have one yet, the Mossbreg 930 is a great gun, if you're looking for an autolader.

I do a lot of hunting in your "neck of the woods", between Wyalusing and New Almany... I'm getting a new Mossberg 4x4 in .25-06 this season, just because I don't have one it that caliber yet. Of course it's not "needed" (don't let the wife know that

).

I have made a rule that I can't put duplicate rifle calibers in the gun safe... That doesn't count for shotguns, they have their own safe, besides, they don't care if there are dupes...

Go down to Gander Mountain, just south of Clarks Summit, they'll have plenty for you to choose from. You can't go wrong with a .30-06 in PA, my son is going this fall (thanks to the Mentored Youth Hunting Program in PA) with an older Remington 700 in .243. Just about any manufacturer out there is making great rifles, nowadays. The only rifle that I would say steer clear of would be the Remingtom 710, but that's just from what I read, no first hand experience.

I have a Savage 270 model 111 that I bought from Dick's for $300.00, complete with a el cheapo scope. Filled all my tags with it 2 years in a row. This year I will put better optics on it.

The Savage 111 is not an expensive rifle but it is very accurate. I have a Steyr Forester in 270 with a Leupold scope that costed 3 times the price of the Savage. The Savage is my rifle of choice as it is very accurate.

I highly recommend the Savage 111. For around $300, it is a bargain. Savage has a reputation for quality and accuracy. It is available in 270 or 30-06. Don't let the cheap price fool you. It is a great fun rifle.

I agree that the Remington 710 is a POS. The Savage 111 has it all over the 710.
