I picked one up the other day. Twenty six inch octagon barrel pump rifle in 44-40. Mngfd about 1901-02. Plenty of blue and appears to be mechanically strong. Intended for a collectible. But some guys are saying shoot it. It sure would be neat to shoot. Anyone shooting one of these cool rifles. Holds fifteen in the magazine. Probably an assault rifle in Republik of Kalifornia.

Ned,
Why don't you take it to a good gunsmith for a thorough going over? If he gives it a good bill of health, I'd probably do a moderate amount of shooting with it if it were mine. You are obviously a shooter, or you would not be hanging around a joint like this, so give in to your instincts. Cause you know you are dying to take it to the range. Doc |

A friend's father had one of those in .45 or .50 caliber, maybe .45-75?
Fun to shoot, but kicked like an SOB.
