M1A flip-up butt plate.

Howdy! My first post in this forum.

Any Hi-Power competitors out there?

I recently bought an M1A with a flip-up butt plate. Does anybody actually use this feature for any style of competition? I was told by one man, "No." And what was the original designed purpose, to be used with full auto?

It's my understanding that the flip up buttplate must remain down during competitions.

I don't shoot hi-power, but know some fellows who do and I seem to recall them saying such one day.

Thank you, Bob. I was sorry to find out (about a week late) that I missed a regonal hi-power match near me in Prescott. Next time! This weekend there will be a gun show in Flagstaff, I will be there!

Flip up butt plates must always be done during High power competition. The sole purpose of this feature was to make the gun more controllable when shooting M14's in full auto. It helped to keep the muzzle down. At one time, there was a shortage of M14 butt plates. It was legal in competition to use M1 Garand butt plates as replacements on your M1As/14s.
