Shot it some yesterday, I really HATE the grips. They grab your hand and want to take your skin off by the 2nd cylinder. The gun wants to roll back in your hand with that short barrel, I wish it was longer. Why o why don't they make the gun with the stock micartas. Stupid. I feel like I'm wasting ammo I could be having fun shooting out of my Henry Big Boy lever rifle. I may get rid of it, I have buyers remorse even at the great price.

I ordered the wood finger groove Hogues. I read elsewhere someone cut the grooves off to make a smooth grip which this gun sorely needs so it can roll up in your hand like it wants to. Stupid.

These guys recommend the JRH grip frame mod for $325 grips included. I guess it's an option.

Did I neglect to mention how stupid it was for Magnum Research not to put smooth cowboy grips on at the factory?

Another endorsement for the JRH treatment with pictures.

Hmm...

I spoke with Jack Huntington today and he said after the first of the year they will be supplying Kahr/Magnum Research with their gripframe. So unless you find a good deal and/or like the rubbers you might want to wait.

Sending mine off shortly. I like the gun just not the grips. I'm sure this will sort everything out.

Called Jack Huntington today not sure I got anyplace .
He talked up the new frame but I am not interested I only need new grips .
At a price of $300 for plain wood grips and 8 weeks turn around I like mine more and more .

I've got the pao ferro finger grips on the way I won't need. I was planning on cutting the finger grooves off per somewhere I read.

Well this is my story with Magnum Research .

Last Winter I bought a BFR 44 Mag and could not use the stupid rubber grips . I did buy a set of Micarta grips from MR high price to pay but I have a set . The new Micarta grips are way over size and will need fit ??

Now I see MR does not offer the Micarta grips anymore ?? Also offers nothing to replace the rubber grip . (SMART)

The gun shoots very well and built to last and that is a good thing as Magnum Research SUCKS BIG TIME . I do not think MR has a brain or a clue .

I have called or e-mailed every so called CUSTOM GRIP maker and none will make a set of grips for the BFR .

Super Blackhawk Grips are just a little under size so my next job will be To grind the grip frame to fit ????

Have you tried Nill grips out of Germany?

Let me know how it goes, I'm looking for some new grips for my RH.

I heard about those grips from TFL member Tulsamal in the thread "Redhawk vs Super Redhawk" in the revolver forum. He apparently has a set on a .41 mag.

If your not having any luck, you could try contacting him and see how he acquired his.

I do thank you for the heads up but it sounds like a lot of time for maybe little gain . Most of the grips on the site (Nill) look more target than I need .

I'm happy with the Huntington grips and grip frame. It makes the 44 feel like a 41. But then it cost $500.

Gun shoots great. Trigger has weird kick back, not noticeable unless decocking or dry firing.

I love my BFR. Mine is in 45/70 Govt. They are fine shooting guns but they are very heavy.

all 26 of my guns are 45/70 govt, 357 mag, 22 or 12 ga... I believe in keeping it simple. Wish my wife did as well...

Very nice really like to look . Shoot the hell out it now .

I have a little over 7,000 rounds of 240 cast out of the BFR and all screws are still tight .

I guess another way to look at it is it is cheaper than a Reeder or Bowen custom revolver. Maybe less refined but every bit as strong and accurate.

I think the Huntington grip is similar to the Keith number 5.

This thread has been a very interesting read over the months as the love/hate relationship has developed.

Glad you're happy with your revolver. I have heard similar responses about MR's customer service.

BUCK

If you look at forums around the web you will see a number of people say they love the Revolvers and hate the Grips . People say I would buy a Magnum Research IF I COULD BUY GRIPS FOR IT ?

Magnum Research has bought a train load of discontinued rubber grips .
These Grips will eat the skin of your hands .
Same thing with rear sights If you buy the upgrade It is a discontinued sight .

You can not buy parts for the upgrade sight (only on e-bay) because it is no longer made . And Magnum Research is selling this crap to customers for top dollar . It is total B.S.
