Not sure which light to buy.

Just bought a Springfield XD-S. Love the pistol. I am in need of a good quality light (no laser).

So far what I've seen are the Insight X2 @ around $120, the Smith and Wesson Micro 90, and the Streamlight TLR-3. I've asked around and they all seem to be good.

I know the insight is rated at only 40 lumens, and uses Xenon gas rather than LED. I'm pretty sure both the S&W and Streamlight are both LED which I prefer. I'd like to keep the light closer to the muzzle which the Insight does well compared to both of these. I've asked around and can't get a definitive answer.

Any opinions?

Thanks.

I am quite fond of the TLR-1 on my M9A1. Despite some saying that a light is useless its still kinda cool to have and since my local range is pathetically lit it comes in very handy. It also has a strobe feature that is blinding to any would be attacker if you are looking for home defense, just don't shine it into a mirror.

Surefire....

I'm not big on tactical white lights for sidearms. I'm not against them, I just rarely use them. I'd purchase a green laser/Viridin brand with a strobe feature.

For regular white lights(no laser aiming units), see www.surefire.com .
Surefire has been standard issue to many LE & military services worldwide.
They are made for hard use & have bright lights.
That may help with your white light needs.

I definitely would prefer a Surefire, but I'm not certain that the X300 (which I believe is their smallest model) would fit on the minuscule rail on the XD-S. I believe it is only an inch long.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I recently wrote to Surefire to ask them this question but have not received a response yet.
