Federal Small Pistol "match" primers

Have been looking to replentish my Small Pistol Primers, but have ben having a hard time. Last night, the sporting goods store in town got a shipment of Federal Small Pistol Match primers in. The price is $39.00/1000.

My question is what is a "match" pistol primer, as compared to a standard primer?

How should I adjust my loads? Are "match" primers treated like "magnum" primers? Can they be used in 9mm, .38 spl., small primer .45 acp with the same loads?

Thanks.

Yes you can use them fine. They have a more consistent weight and allow for more precise ammo making.

They aren't any different than standard small pistol primers just a little better. Not hotter and I wouldn't bother adjusting loads any more than I would just switching brands.

Got a pal who works for ATK which owns Federal. Asked him that a couple years ago. According to him the "match primer" line runs at slower production speed, and everyone who works on that line has a proven track record of quality.

Thanks, guys. $39/1000 is steep, but they are available. A bird in the hand, as they say!

Thanks again.

For in shop price I would buy a couple thousand of them. Local shop here charges $5 per 100 for standard primers. No discount for a 1K brick. I look at in the same sense of buying a gallon of milk, and loaf of bread at the 7-11.

I bought and shoot those. They're usually the last to sell out during panic times because of a higher price. I'm going to standardize on them.

Oh, they're supposedly softer for reliable firing in competitions.

That's true of Federal primers in general, centerfire at least. I'm not sure it that extends to rimfire detonation.

Hey Ted, it's the same way many places. Primers are available online but when they are in stock they go quickly.

I use GM-100 mostly for revolver. For semi-auto with a floating firing pin I use CCI 500 or WSP.
