Google is your friend. http://www.midwayusa.com/content/legacy/moly_faq.htm
Moly was purported to be a boon to the rifle. However, there are many pitfalls by using it. Please use the search function to learn more. Hobie |

It used to be more popular than it seems to be now, but the main purpose I know of is to reduce copper fouling - I think to be really effective you need to deep clean the bore before switching to moly bullets and then stick to them. I've also seen reports that they raise pressures somewhat, so the same load with a moly bullet should be reduced a bit and worked back up.
I've cleaned a couple of rifle bores in which both moly and bare bullets were shot through together; to me they seemed to be much more difficult to get clean so I've generally avoided them. But I'm sure someone has used them with good results. |

It's also the street name for the pure form of the illegal drug ecstasy, so if you are looking for some molybdenum bullet coating, don't ask the shady looking guy hanging out in front of the nightclub.
This public service announcement brought to you by the committee for the prevention of things that will probably never happen but would be funny if they did. |

I have been moly coating bullets for 11 years.
I think moly allows me more accurate shots before I have to clean Copper from the bore when shooting between 2600 and 3600 fps. It does not help as much as having a select match barrel that has been lapped at the factory and is mirror smooth inside. I started out with the Lyman kit; ceramic media, vibrator, screen separator, moly powder I evolved into using BBs and magnetic separation. Then I went to using bottles filled with just a few BBs or none at all, and the bottle thrown in a large vibrator with Walnut media. Now I use a duck taped up bottle and put it in a Thumbler's Tumbler with no media. I got started from something Walt Berger put on his web site before he sold his bullet company[I] {Sorry. Good info, but kind of stretches the board copyrighted information policy. Could you put in a link instead? If there is none, we should drop WB a line and get his express permission.} Here is some good info http://www.6mmbr.com/bulletcoating.html

Ifishsum,
The moly actually lowers pressure; typically you drop about 20-50 fps off an established load when you start using moly bullets, and have to add powder to bring it back.

I clip boarded and put his instructions for moly into gun forums in 2002. Berger Bullets has since phased out moly bullets, saying it is too cheap for individuals to do and too expensive for them with labor overhead. http://www.bergerbullets.com/bullets...-discontinued/ It looks like as of 2 years ago Walt Berger is still alive. http://www.longrangehunting.com/foru...bullets-75787/ When I speak on the phone to the guy at Neco, he tells me that the gentleman that patented the impingement process for moly on bullets is no longer with us. I can see that in addition to my posts, the echo chamber of gun forums has spread the text of how to shoot moly bullets into some other languages. I have only been posting on English speaking gun forums. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=355478 http://www.ar15armory.com/forums/ind...-moly-coating/ http://forum.accurateshooter.com/ind...3688956.5;wap2 http://benchrest.com/archive/index.php/t-81753.html http://www.aldeer.com/forum/ubbthrea...&Number=292755 http://www.saubier.com/forum/archive...hp?t-6537.html http://www.shootersforum.com/rifles-...-22-250-a.html http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/i.../t-279749.html http://www.predatormastersforums.com...&Number=909661 https://groups.google.com/forum/?fro...ns/i1ZFqqkIU80 http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...php?p=54791899 https://groups.google.com/forum/?fro...ns/drfKH4Tbikk http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubb...Number=1791252

Thanks. I find the copyright concerns a nuisance, as I used to use a lot of linking and copying myself, but am charged with enforcing the board rules just in case we find that one troublemaker with the desire to sue.
