Can you dull down a gloss base?

I'm going to install matte Burris Zee Signature rings on my next project but the only model black base from Burris is gloss (and silver). The only other matte base I've found is a Leupold and I'm not a big Leupold fan.

I may order both bases but if I want to dull down the gloss Burris, is there a proven way that works? I know acetone will work but may not do it evenly. I have some JB Paste that might work plus I thought about putting it in the vibrator bowl for cleaning cartridges. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

A light sand blasting with very fine media should do the trick, but why not just paint it with a thin coat of matte paint? The scope base is probably the single most protected spot on a rifle, so the paint is not going to be knocked off.
