First time shooting trap

I shot trap for my first time last weekend. A buddy is a big time trap shooter and has been bugging me for a while so I tried it. It was more fun than I thought it would be but my shoulder is still a tad tender. I borrowed his Rem870 as the only shotgun I own is a short barreled Chinese copy of an Ithica 37. Not a bad gun but not a good choice for trap. He was shooting his Beretta O/U and on the fifth round I managed 18 of 25. Not a bad day. Five rounds of trap is more shotgunning in one day than I've done in probably ten years. Next time will be better.

Stay safe.

18 out of 25 - you're off to a great start, James! I tend to shoot trap this time of year to tune up for hunting season. It's lots of fun, huh? If the range you are going to has wobbler trap, skeet, and sporting clays be sure to give each of them a try to.

Good start, Buddy, congrats and Mazeltov. And with the best gun, too(G).

Now swap that ChiCom clone off for a good used 870 and get just as addicted as the rest of us clay junkies....

That's a great score for a first time shooter. I agree with Dave, find a used 870 trap gun. Get one of the older ones if you can (without the magazine dimples) and but an aftermarket short barrel and mag extension. Then you have an HD, IDPA and Trap gun all in one.
