I am new to all this so bear with me. I am trying to locate a FMJ flat point bullet to load in .45 ACP. I know Hornady has one and I really like the looks of it but I want to get 1000 and that would cost $175 for bullets alone. That is cost prohibitive. Does anyone know where to find a good FMJ flat point? Would a hard cast SWC accomplish the same thing (big flat point and deep penetration) and feed as reliably in an auto? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Bill

Lead bullets actually feed more reliable in most firearms. The metal is softer and and slide better in most mechanisms. The cost goes down under $50 per thousand too.

Emailed the folks at www.westcoastbullet.com this week for a quote on .45 200gr FP TCJ and the reply was $66/1000 including shipping.

Check out "Rainier Bullets". You can find them on the Dillon Precision website and through Weidners. Totally copper encapsulated and much lower in cost than what you mentioned. They shoot great !!

This type of bullet would not feed in my friend's S&W 457. Regards, Richard.

Bill,

The Hornady 230 FMJFN is a good bullet but way too expensive.

If you want a FMJ at a hole lot less cost stick with a RN. The following Web site www.patsreloading.com has Rem. for $67.00 per 1000. You can do a lot of shooting for $100.00. Come to think of it I think I'll order a thousand monday.

If you want a cast FP similar to Hornady's style try this web site www.nationalbullet.com
they have 230 cast FP for $39.00 a 1000

I have had problems with feeding with 230gr flat point bullets in my Colt 1911 and Sig220. The problem went away with 210gr flat point bullets.
