I have a AR15 1-7 twist my ? what is the heavies bullet I can use that will fit in the mag? Are match bullets longer? Is it the heaver the longer is that the rule of thumb? I will be using H4895 power what are some good bullet choices?

The 75 and 77 gr match bullets are loaded to fit the mag. The 80 gr. SMK's are too long to get the right powder charge in the case and seat it to mag length. The reason is the 77's and 80's ojives are different with the 80 gr. veing more like a VLD than the 77 gr. I bought some 90 gr. Bergers thinking I would use them at 1K but the 80's will get there too. I must admit they are cute bullets though.

Using IMR 4895, I undestand 69 and 77 gr. SMK's do well. Don't rule out Varget or Reloder 15 as powders to use either.

Your 1 in 7 should like the 77 and 80's just fine. Mine does.

AA2520 seems to have become the magic powder w/ the heavies. Try it.

(You'll also like that it meters like water.)

Stay away from the Hornady 75gr A-Max, it must be loaded long and will not fit into the mag.

Please don't misunderstand not being critical but I see so many threads for those shooting 223 wanting to use heavy bullets unless your shooting beyond 300 yards I see little value no matter the barrel twist. I've owned 5 223 bolt guns and one AR all were 1/9 twist and yet the most accuracy was achieved with 52 gr match bullets. The 223 is a caliber I really enjoy shooting however much beyond 300 yards I will move up to 308 or perhaps 243, while the 223 will reach out to 1000yds IMO loading it with anything above 65gr defeats it purpose.

Let us know what they do for you. I'm looking for something better myself.

I have seen great accuracy with my loads of 55gr Berry's bullets using IMR 4198 at 19.8 grains of powder. I don't know the exact velocity as I don't have a chrono but grouping is within 2" or less at about yds with iron sights. I don't know how good that is but I do like it a lot.

P.S. I am using a DPMS AR-15 with 1-9 twist also.
