Rem 700 LVSS - J-Lock Problem

I bought the .223, Rem 700 LVSS as a Rem-Factory/display model last October and found that the bolt opened hard when decocked. I tried finding the problem, including spring drag, and other factors, but believe that it's in the J-Lock. When I turned it to the Lock position, the bolt opened easily, but the firing pin only dropped a bit on trigger pull.

Anyway, it seems to be a source of problems and is at LL Bean in Freeport, ME, where I bought it. I found out that they have a "full-service" gunsmithing department and will replace the shroud with one without the J-Lock. My new 700 CDL doesn't have one and that's a good thing.
